If you like falling on your face, stupidly hopping/wallowing around on catwalks, getting haplessly stuck in powder, and making all your cooler skier friends wait for you at the top of every lift, and being deathly afraid of moguls...then go for it

Before you all flip a b*tch and freak out, know that I'm kindly poking fun at the whole ski vs board debate. I have plenty of friends that board, its sick. We all like the same stuff and go the mountain for the same reason

I think Burton some nice boards, others are just outragiously expensive for no reason, but their bindings are garbage. Which is why I have a Burton board with Flux bindings, which I highly recommend! And 32 boots which are awesome for comfort, quality, and they are super lightweight. Make sure you get gloves that are actually waterproof or else your hands will freeze.

    I just got it!

I would like to respectfully disagree.

Spend all your money on your boots. Get some real nice, comfortable, wonderful boots. It doesn't matter how good a board you have at this point, because you don't have a clue what kind of board you like. So get comfy in your boots, and who cares about bindings at this point, too? I would say get aluminum, because then they'll never break. Ride makes aluminum bindings and Ride is also quite cheap.

    Boots - Very important
Bindings - literally all they have to do is hold you to the board. So why waste money here?
Board - You won't notice a difference between boards at different price points until you've really gotten into the sport, so definately don't waste your money on a Burton board. Get a Sims or a Rossignol or something. They're average to good quality, but at a lesser price point.

Yeah I agree with this completely. I've taught snowboard lesson for several years and have seen newbies with brand new gear and end up hating the sport. So, as much as rental gear sucks it will be worth it in the end. Id also check out reviews on the gear. A lot of companies rate their stuff, especially boards, so you know what to expect! Good luck and I hope you enjoy it! Its a total blast! :D

I just purchased my 2010-2011 Nothstar season pass. I live in San Jose and I go up 10-15 times a year. There's nothing better than waking up at 5am to drive 4 hours to some fresh powder. I currently have a Forum Recon board with Union Bindings. I highly recommend union bindings if you are planing on boarding a lot!
