The kidney is functioning well. Just dealing with some new issues. I guess the dialysis caused quite a bit of calcification and I now have early onset osteo-arthritis and after 7 years of painful chronic muscle cramps and spasms, they sent me to a neurologist for testing and they found out I have peripheral neuropathy. They said there is no cure for it, but there is a medication treatment called Gabapentin. So far I am only having fatigue side effects from it, so it's all good.

 

Ouch! Do your best to keep moving; i know its tuff!

I still think about you and your family everyday, brother!

Next few days should be exciting- even though we are 3 hrs from the beach.

So, I pushed myself to ride some extra miles and rode in the Long Beach Marathon 20 mile bike tour a few weeks ago. Felt awesome to get out for my first ever bike event and rock out in my jersey to advocate for other kidney patients. As I crossed the finish line, they made us come to an abrupt stop and dismount which somehow triggered my neuropathy and caused a bad muscle cramp/spasm in my knee joint area. Almost fell over and had to be walked off to the side for a couple hours to recover, but stoked to get my finisher's medal and get props from folks who read my jersey. Oh, and yes, my mohawk stood back up after I took my helmet off. hahahaha

 

Hey thanks for asking. It's been up and down but holding as steady as I can. The osteoarthritis I developed during dialysis is progressing and they got the neuropathy pains reduced but it's still an issue to keep me from working full time. I went out for a couple job interviews, but due to my medical conditions, one job told me straight up I was a workman's comp liability and the other job interview went south in a heartbeat when my neuropathy hit midway through the interview and both hands curled up on their own and without warning right in front of the HR manager.

As for the kidney, they are currently testing it again as the last 2 months, the kidney function has declined a little. I should have today's lab results by next Monday.

BUT, I am still walking and talking, so it's all good. Beats being hooked up to the machine again.
