Adjusted the kick-down cable this morning. I gave it maybe 1/8 inch more slack than what my Haynes calls for (they show this adjustment in the A/T section). Took a short drive and so far so good. Gentle hills, no downshift, and the OD kept the truck up to speed no problem. Will report back after next road trip. Thanks, Zemuron, for this idea.

I did not know about this cable. - I'll take a look at this later on today. Though it seems to me I only remember 2 cables - one for the gas and one cruise - I can't picture the third, but hopefully i'll see it when I look at it tonight while changing the oil.
Glad you had positive results OP - may try this my self.

Walt, the most forward cable is the throttle, next to it is the kick-down cable, and then the cruise cable comes in from the passenger side. Let us know how it works for you.

that cable needs to be adjusted with a pressure guage connected to the transmission . the cablè tells your trans engine load . if you back it off to much you get a slipping trans . there are different model transmissions throughout the years but the cable serves two purposes

Walt, I just noticed you have an '03. According to Haynes, "03 and later do not have this cable.

Cruncher, point well taken. I put it back to spec and seems to be working fine. I did notice with it slackened a bit there seemed to be a bit more up and down activity in the tach. Figured that wasn't a good idea so re-adjusted it.

Thanks for the info Tom. I did look while changing the oil last night and can confirm that I have only the throttle cable and the cruise cable.
