Resolved the low tranny fluid issue with truck now its at the dealer and they are trying to figure out the vibration or light shudder while braking below 20mph. they are baffled and are trying got figure it out with toyota techs?? its not very noticeable until braking at 10mph and below. They pulled rear drive shaft and it was still doing it?? I searched forum and never saw where anyone really figured it out?? mods delete if this is beating a dead horse.

they pulled the rear drive shaft out and drove the truck in 4WD?? still got the vibration so are they going to pull the front shaft out and try it again??

It's obvious they think it's drive line related... u-joints toasted due to no grease after assembly???

How many miles do you have on the truck?

The U joints were greased shortly after getting truck.9k miles on it. Jus picked it up after new drums and pads installed on the rear. I think I can still feel it altho barely?? they did an update on the ECM to get rid of the lag between R and D also and help in shifting. it just came out yesterday! Tab 0077-16

I'm starting to think the same even though my local dealer supposedly ruled it out by pulling the drums and testing for runout. I think they need to be turned.

I feel it when not braking too. If brakes were out of round or warped, you would DEFINITELY feel it on the highway when you were coming to a stop at higher speeds.

Also, I had a pair of out of round drum brakes (brand new) on my old truck. They squealed coming to a stop at low speeds and you could tell immediately by looking at the messed up wear pattern on the shoes that something was way off. Even they didn't cause this type of vibration.

I am, in no way, 100% sure, but it feels heavily like a driveline angle issue. If your dealer is willing to work with you, just ask them if they can measure the driveline angles. Should take no more than 2 minutes for them. I will bring it up at my next service, at the 5k service I went to, the dealer said they were too busy to do anything but rotate my tires (thanks).

I'm aware that a lot has been said about it and there is a "potential fix" coming somewhere down the line. I'm waiting for it before I go up in arms at the dealer about my differential howling.

Actually, I do feel it at higher speeds which is why I suspect the drums.

Angles out of spec can still cause vibration at higher speeds as well. Depends when you start feeling another harmonic. I'm guessing 60-70 somewhere?

OP asked if anyone solved the stuttering. There have been a few that claim the rear drum was the culprit.
    I wouldn't rule it out.
Could be a harmonic only felt at certain speed when it overcomes the suspensions ability to dampen it.

I agree, I wouldn't rule it out either. He said they checked runout though

    Ah, missed that.
Does runout reveal a balance issue?

2 degree shims on mine fixed it.
Mine had it before the lift and much worse after the lift.
Felt like severely warped rotors, then decided to drive around at 15 mph for a bit and realized it was there all the time at that speed.
The 2 degree shims eliminated it on mine. Good luck.

I have this issue as well. Toyota had my truck for a day and a half. They had to add a quart to the transmission but when they sent someone with me for a test/drive and ride he mentioned the u joints and seemed to think it was normal and something to do with the driveline.

If this is the culprit, I'd like to see Toyota adjust the angle of the perch and lengthen it an inch or two.

I had the same problem. They had to turn the drums. That corrected the problem for a short time. I now have the same problem. My service rep indicated Toyota will have to develop a TSB to fix the problem.

He asked for sulitions not toyotas official fix, Toyota did nothing for mine, they said it was a normal characteristic of the truck, I had to do it myself. About $35 and 15 min and my vibration was gone.

I would have thought Toyota would have corrected it by now but I believe the 2nd gens had this problem as well. The split rear drive shaft with no cv joint is very sensitive as far as the angle goes, not all have a issue so I'm not sure as to why that is.
