Yes the Aurora is quite unusual here in RI. Here is a panorama as well from a little while ago....

My take on the Cygnus Loop. 3190 10 second subs (5 tiff stack from various nights). Bortle 5, CovalENS with DB filter with both a Vespera Classic and a VPro. Stacked in Affinity Photo 2, stretched in GIMP 2.10.38 (rev 1). The bright star, 52 Cygni, was also processed with GIMP.

Discovered by Charles Messier in 1764, M20 is a star-forming nebula located 9,000 light-years away from Earth in the constellation Sagittarius. Also known as the Trifid Nebula, M20 has an apparent magnitude of 6.3.

Got this last night (8-24-2024). I set up the imaging for this and went off to get some milky way photos before the moon rose..

Got this at Ninigret Park in Charlestown, RI just before moon rise on 8-24-2024. I was imaging the Milky Way over the observatory and decided to head over to the large tent to try this...

Another photo from Ninigret Park in Charlestown, RI and the Frosty Drew Observatory dome. This is a 6 image stitched panorama of the dome and the rising Milky Way. Shot with a Canon R6M2, 24mm, f/4.0, ISO 1600. 13 second exposures for each frame, Bortle 5. Stacked with Bimostitch on my iPad. I light painted the dome with a red light, maybe a 1 second flash...

More Milky Way fun... As I was leaving Moonstone Beach in Rhode Island a week or so ago, I took this parting shot of the milky way over the inlet/pond there. I had to hike around to get the correct orientation. I'd forgotten about this image until now. Five 30 second stacked images for the MW and one 10 second image for the reeds/pond. I was too aggressive with the MK exposure as there is some star trailing...

Nice shot - I've been meaning to get out since the MW is rising so early but it's still 100+ degrees at 8:45 pm.
Next week is going to be a bit cooler I may try to get the last opportunity then.

From last week's multi night clear skies. My 1st attempt at these targets together. Vespera Classic, DB filter, Bortle 6.
    • IC 443 (Jellyfish Nebula): A supernova remnant with filament-like clouds resembling a jellyfish drifting in space. Lower right in the image
    • NGC 2174 (Monkey Head Nebula): A glowing region of gas shaped like a monkey’s face, lit by young stars forming within. Upper left of image.
Both nebulae offer dramatic and distinct shapes against the cosmic backdrop. This was a somewhat difficult target in that they are wide apart with respect to the field of view of my the Vespera (2.4 X 2.4}. The image represents 6 mosaics (each mosaic is comprised of several nights of accumulated data) stitched together to form this panorama.

Just picked up a barely used Celestron CPC 800. Couple nights in Glacier Park were great. Super dark. Now I need to sell my Meade LXD 55 SN10.
