A magical night of astronomical challenges: very cold temperatures, fierce winds, and a fleeting moon. But the reward was worth it – the Wizard Nebula emerged, a celestial masterpiece against the inky black sky. Very please with the dust cloud details...

I am no where near as sophisticated as the rest of you guys on this thread by a wide margin. I thought I would just post my comet pics from this summer. Amazing enough taken by my Pixel 7XL PRO. No where near the high standards of what I have just seen. But we thought we're amazing for being taken by cell phone.

Mars occultation last night. Caught the emerging planet at ~10:46PM. I used my 30 year old 8" Meade LX200 SCT as a prime lens for my Canon R6M2. This was a challenging target...

The parade of planets starts tonite! Venus and Saturn to the west, Jupiter will be above you, and Mars will in the east.
Neptune and Uranus will be up too but you're unlikely to see them--too far away. They'll be viewable for a while.

An app like Stellarium, Star Walk, or SkySafari will help identify the planets and if you're just looking to see what's in the night sky where you are, they do that as well.

Been using Stellarium for a while now. Have been getting more and more interested lately. Even caught the Seven Sisters with my phone a few weeks ago. Picked up a Seestar S50 and have been itching to get out of the city to test it out.

For the PC I had Starry Night Pro 6 on windows 7 and have yet to install on my newer windows 10 PC. I read that SN Pro 6 might not work on W10 since it requires OpenGL and Quicktime. I used it mainly for what's going to be up for our clubs events and to print out star charts with the Telrad circles. Starry Night Pro 8 seems to have a lot of reported problems.
Is Stellarium a good replacement? I never used all the features of SNP 6 and do not need any software to drive my scope being a dobsonian bullt in a John Dobson workshop.

Stellarium is pretty popular, has a lot of features and is pretty easy to use.

Just a joke, but interestingly, the night of the murders there was full cloud cover, so his alibi is doneski.

My most recent Orion and Running Man Nebulae. This image represents just over 5 hours of 10 second subs, over 4 nights of accumulation. Processed with Pixinsight.

High Point Scientific has been offing items from the Meade/Orion sale at really favorable prices. If you're looking for a telescope or binoculars, might wanna have a look. I bought some small 8x25 binoculars for $25. They listed for $80 at one time. Not really sure what's left. I did find a cheap microfocuser for my LX200ACF.
