    No need for binoculars..

COMET LEONARD OUTBURST: Comet Leonard (C/2021 A1) surprised astronomers yesterday when it suddenly brightened 10-fold. The surge might signal a fragmentation event in the comet's core. Leonard is once again visible to the naked eye in the sunset sky near Venus. Observing tips and more @Spaceweather.com.

GEOMAGNETIC STORM WATCH: A CME is coming, and it is likely to hit Earth's magnetic field on Feb. 2nd. Moderately-strong G2-class geomagnetic storms are possible when the CME arrives. If the storm materializes as expected, it could set the stage for mid-latitude auroras visible in northern tier US states. Full story @ Spaceweather.com.

Any decent intro telescopes <$300? Looking for something small enough to keep in the closet of my trailer. I could see Saturn and Jupiter a while back, but it got kinda hard to keep holding my Mosin up to look through the monster scope that is on it....

Have you considered binoculars? Less expensive, easier on the eyes. Can get mounts for them too.
    https://www.space.com/26021-best-binoculars.html

As for your price point for a scope, I’d stick with the known brands- Meade, Celestron. Skywatcher gets decent reviews in S&T.

Good luck! Keep us posted on what you decide.

well after much nail biting, and a few curse words. I think I finally have my LX200 updated to a good firmware version. I used the free version of Star Patch and updated it with a newer firmware version I got from reading Cloudynights.com website. Used a dinosaur HP laptop that is slower than molasses in the winter time. It only took about 65 minutes. I spent 2 hours trying to pick my brain on how windows 10 works. Windows is the only operating system that will run the software and talk to my scope. I finally found the correct serial port drivers and everything appears to be good. I've set the date and time, telescope type, and I'm hoping to set up one night next week. Of course right now Moon phase is perfect but cloudy skies are going to prevail for the next several days here. This updated patch is supposed to fix a known GPS issue with Meade telescopes. I'll find out soon enough.
