I have CV oil leak after replacing a few weeks ago. I know very common issue, usually due to rubber seal.

So I took back apart to clean the oil seal and noticed the inner-axle dust cover is not seated on the "inboard joint tulip". This doesn't seem proper since it can wear the rubber down as the axle spins, I think that might be what's causing the leak. Assuming there should be a constant gap between the metal and rubber seals I took a look at FSM. Toyota recommends:

    REASSEMBLY
    1.INSTALL DUST COVER
Using a screwdriver and hammer, install a new dust cover.
    2.INSTALL DUST SEAL
Using a screwdriver and hammer, install a new dust seal.

I gave this a try, but the cover fits so tightly it won't pop into place. Hammer one side and the opposite end pops off. Tried using PVC pipe to distribute the force but still won't pop into place.

Anyone else run into this and find a better way?

Did you replace the needle bearing?

    Talking about 90080-30028, right?

If so, most definitely a pain in the ass. I was using the largest press sleeve I had (which just barely fit) and another on top of that along with a press plate. Took several good whacks from a BFH to get it started. Once you can get it started - take a brass drift and start tapping around the circumference. It'll take some time, just keep at it. Truth be told, I did botch and severely FU one. Fortunately I had an extra on-hand.

Yep, my bad. Meant to reference that PN. Same issue although not as bad. Get something over it to get it started then brass drift tap tap tap. Worked for me.
