Hi all, getting slightly interested in trying to do some "baby off roading" in the Taco. I found a thread on here with some 2wd friendly ones in SoCal but do you guys have any advice for this first timer? Not looking to do anything crazy; would just be nice to see some sights you wouldnt otherwise.

Do I need to air down? How do I air up?

    Thanks in advance!

    check out Del Sur ridge.

Did it a few weeks ago, it was nothing too crazy. If you can get past the gatekeeper you'll be fine the rest of the route. But Id suggest taking some recovery gear and a friend just in case.
When I went, there was couple people pass me on dirtbikes and saw 2 other vehicles so I felt a bit better that I wasn't "too isolated" and there seemed to be cell reception most of the route. ( I' am also new to driving off road so these things helped put my mind at ease a bit as I went solo)

Definitely air down- BUT have a way to air back up.

Some good AT tires will go a long way. Airing down will help depending on the trail. Ive done a couple of trails with 2wd without airing down. Wouldnt hurt to do it but make sure you get a air compressor.
I been using this Harbor Freight compressor for a while now and has worked flawlessly for me. I paid like $80. Nothing fancy but it does the job. I had 33's and it aired them up with no problem.

Take a shovel and have tractions boards in case. A small shovel saved me on my first off road experience. Watch some videos online about basic recovery tips and gear. Know your limits. Just get out there and explore.
