I was looking at an older post from here, from years ago on this and wandered if there was any truth to it. Poster said his truck acted like he was a ninety year old grandma behind the wheel. Just so happens that the gentleman I bought mine from was a mid 70 year old grandfather who drove it around a one horse town all the time. I mean the truck drives fine but you can just tell that it has been driven by a "light foot" and has not seen alot of quick acceleration situations or has been pushed much. Like the transmission thinks that every road is still a flat road in the town that it use to live in.

Most of the comments suggested to just keep on driving it like he stole it and that it would take a few hundred miles for it to learn his style of driving.

    Comments?

I’m interested to know the factual answer on this. I just bought a 2015 with 20,700 miles on it.

Bet you paid up for that one. Mine has 59,000 on it. He put about 8,000 a year on it as the second owner.

I don't have 4WD so it was priced right. I needed the access cab for my wheelchair. Didn't want the double cab so that helped the price too.

And for the record, I drove it pretty fast from Florida to Texas. 1200 miles in two days. Doing 70-80 pretty much the whole way. If it relearns, it’s learning to go fast. :)

Yeah, I drove mine over 200 miles back home after buying it. That was last Saturday. Around 75 mph the whole way.

"If you unhook the battery for more than 30 minutes it will reset and then start the learning over."

No real proof in that thread, though. So take it all with a grain of salt.

Rookie:) 600 miles/day is nothing. I've done 1000 and 1100 miles stopping only for gas and food. As much as 1700 miles in 28 hours by tag team driving.

The transmissions shift points will be different with different driving styles. But it doesn't take long to relearn when being driven by another driver. A long road trip isn't the best way for it to relearn however. The transmission doesn't change gears all that much. Driving around town is where it matters. Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes will speed up the process.

I beleive you need a Toyota techstream scanner to clear long term memory . Any data that is sent to the computer in your truck from the transmission remains stored in the electronic control module .
Removing battery posts only clears short term memory but will give you a little head start and begin learning the way you drive .
Its not how fast you drive such as top speed , its how fast you speed up .
The Aisn Seiki A750E transmission is designed to shift smooth . its designed this way to keep grandpa as well as the soccer moms happy .
I personaly find the transmission too lazy during shifts . That lazy shift is actually a slip causing wear as well as heat .
If you want your shift points to be more aggressive , you will have to dig into the gas pedal for a while or add calibration to the transmission valve body . The factory shift pressure inside the transmission is set at medium in most Tacomas . I say max out the adjustment and prevent that lazy shift
You can adjust shift feel when the transmission pan is off .
