I agree with this too. I am not talking about the website guy, that's between him and Toyota and I have no idea what actually happened. But I can tell you for certain that if I had a major warranty claim denied due to a claim of "off roading" that was not abusive to the vehicle, I would have counsel involved.

Yeah. Saw it. Apparently only Tacoma owners are unaware that other vehicles also smoke as well on inclines.

Stupid Toyota. Stupid car motor. Stupid 3rd gen.

Not at all mad. In fact, I took the ES to Moab and left the truck at home. Flex pic leaving Canyonlands.

Obviously he caused that by hitting that water at ramming speed. That's why it's hard to give fording depth because dumb asses think that 30" of water means 30" at 25mph. He would have been fine at a moderate speed. Same with our trucks. I would not expect to have any issues at 30", but I'm not going to do it like that guy.

^Precisely. If you don't suck in water through the intake, you can't hydrolock. Get a snorkel if you want to drive through rivers at 30mph. And even that might not save you, with a big enough wave.

    I dunno specifics.

I thought the article was interesting in that it mentions with the Raptor Ford should be offering a class on desert driving with it. Obviously the Raptor is capable but it's not a full on Trophy truck because that would not only be financially impossible but such a truck would be impossible to make road legal under all the regulation.

So that may be IMO the compromise with "off road", that if you want your warranty honored you have to take a class on mechanical limits that Toyota teaches so you know what fording depth and operating angles mean and how to actually cross water and lower your chance of hydro locking.

I think some sports car manufacturers were including track days for training purposes, with the purchase of the vehicle. I don't disagree with the idea. Way better to educate the customer on the safe limits of the equipment, than to make him think the vehicle is invincible via advertising, and then deny the warranty when it blows up.

Without commenting on his specific issues, the dude decided it was a good idea to submerge his wheel bearings in muddy water the day before before towing a trailer >3500 miles? One way or another, this guy was destined to spend some unscheduled time at the side of the road.

Well, I think you hit the nail on the head. Maybe you touched on it earlier as well, maybe it was another poster, but the minute Toyota puts out that you can ford through 25" of water, some dick will do it incorrectly and then post on here or somewhere else that Toyota is making false claims.....

......then a horde of idiots will begin piling on.

17 pages and I'm at work so I haven't had a chance to look and see if this has been mentioned before, but this happened last year.

    https://expeditionportal.com/forum/...-climb-3rd-gen-taco-then-blown-engine.194679/

    Edit:

    Holy fuck:

"...(I did ford about 20 inches of water earlier in the day, but no smoke or loss of engine power then). Also, I'm pretty sure the manual claims you can ford water up to 27" deep...."

20 Inches of water in a stock truck? Isn't that over 2/3 to the top of the tire?
