I recently went through some... trails.. my engine bay is layered in dry mud and I have leaves stuck and stuffed in every possible nook and cranny under the truck. Sand and dirt chilling on the frame.. Guess I should clean it up before I take it to the dealer for my 15k. :mudding: Have not experienced and honestly have not heard about the incline/smoke oil pressure problem. I also have not gone up an incline for longer than 2 minutes. Thanks for bringing this up lol time to get back under my rock.

I like making good memories. I don't think spending an intimate evening with a tranny is going to make me good memories.

He has two valid points though,

    1) What is the Official safe fording depth? / Water level?

    2) What is that Max Incline?

If Toyota won't say what it is but will deny warranty based on those parameters, then HIS POINTS ARE VALID.

Dealer screwed up with the Hydrolocking diagnosis from water, maybe. My gut says it was from oil in the cylinder , but without looking at the Engine myself or talking to the tech, it's just a best guess.

You guys knew that the lowest computers in these trucks are located inside the frame rails by the front of the front doors right? One is for the HP fuel pump I believe.... Yes they are supposed to be sealed, and yes the have waterproof connectors with O-ring seals (O-rings aging and shrinking/cracking etc) in them but... then all the other electronic gadgetry hanging off transmissions and transfer cases etc. Lol look at where the ABS sensors are...

Official response (if there ever is one) will probably recommend water depth no more than the bottom of the frame rails.
Age of the truck, manufacturing variation, dwell time in the water will create a probability matrix that would make it impossible to give you and accurate "guess" what the safe #'s are past that point. Until you get to the Obvious failure levels (air intake, internal passenger area computers).
    So with that logic

Fine upto the bottom of the frame, This is were your warranty is safe.
Might have a problem past there depending on how long you are in the water, this is where your warranty is in jeopardy.
Once you get water into the passenger compartment upto the pedals or into the air intake, your warranty is null and void. Like trying to claim warranty on flood damage, not gonna happen.

But I'm not an Engineer from Toyota, so my opinion is just on the pile of other opinions.

Incline angle is a lot harder to say or even get a feel of with all the anecdotal testimony here closest I can figure out is it's somewhere past 30-35 degrees pitch,
what was the Roll when this was happening? Does it happen only when you're Rolled towards the passenger side, been like that for how many minutes?

Bad/weak valve guide or valve stem seal(s) might contribute to this also, oil return placement and size as well as a host of other things can contribute to this issue.

Here is a shot in the dark giving the benefit of the doubt to they person with the issue.

While on a 35 degree Pitch and a 20 degree passenger side roll, the oil started pooling in the rocker cover. Pressing on the gas then letting it off suddenly increases the vacuum in the cylinder and pulls oil past a marginal valve stem seal, unburnt oil and carbon accumulated in that passenger rear cylinder until internal pressures exceeded design parameters and the connecting rod bent.
During the drive home and pulling a heavy load the connecting rod finally failed.

Engineers at Toyota can say almost exactly what angles and times it will take before you go outside a safe zone for the truck, problem is getting the sales guys to let them release that information.

** Trying to get even a seat of your pants idea of facts on this site sometimes can be soooo hard, it's like trying to pick the pepper from the flyshit with trolls screaming in your ears while turning fans on. **

Smoking on an incline happens in most vehicles unless they were specifically designed to run that way, only different parameters are how much and how long.

We just gotta get the trolls distracted somewhere else and maybe we can get a better idea of roughly where the safe spots are for climbing in a Tacoma.

We might be able to go 35 deg Pitch with 20 degrees roll on passenger for 10 mins, but could go 50deg Pitch with a 20 deg roll on driver side for 20 mins, not real numbers but we have to disperse the trolls so we can gather the facts.

Like that one time someone dared me to walk up the back steps of the Whaley house and stare into a 2nd story window. Which I did. And when I saw the ghost of a woman staring back at me with a scowl, I was so horrified my heart palpitated and I fell backwards. The ghost stormed forwards to the window to look down at me and she started screaming at me in Spanish. And it was at that point I realized she was the night time cleaning lady, because ghosts don’t speak Spanish. A wave of relief washed over my body. Ghosts are like the only thing I’m afraid of.

WOW!! before reading I guessed a California type person= a fucking web link about 1st world problems type, first paragraph, yup California.... What happens to you folks in CA?

Okay, more to the rant. CA = ~25 to 29y.o. = IG account = buy a 3rd gen = roof rack = weird tent thing on bed = bro it out - bro, put it on IG. Blame anyone and I mean anyone, but the fucker looking at you in the mirror. Fuck, no one is listening to me blaming others, back to IG or any social media that I can find like minded fuckers, share said blame story.

Sorry, but I see same thing way to often and makes me laugh at CA = IG fuckers... :anonymous:. I have a very difficult time believing folks like this, which unfortunately we see all to often on TW :frusty:

    Ok, rant done :fenforcer:

I don’t know if you know this, but you need California more than California needs you. We could isolate that state, and it could exist indefinitely, and maintain control of the globe based on ports, military power, resources, and agriculture. Sell your Tacoma
