That’s exactly what mine sounds like. I think, for me, it’s just that the relative lack of sound deadening — I suspect because they figure truck people mind engine noise less or even want more of it — makes it stand out more than I expect. That and the fact that it goes away what feels almost randomly, though is most certainly just the engine switching to port injection for whatever reason it felt was necessary at the time.

The 24 I test drove literally sounded like the turbo had loose marbles rolling around every time you pressed the gas. :notsure:

Its an exaggerated drone from the speakers pumping engine noise into the cab of the truck....
Annoying but can be turned off...

Can’t say as mine sounds like that. It’s a fairly typical air rushing sound, maybe with a bit of whistle when the bypass valve opens. I haven’t been able to identify what it sounds like when the waste gate is open or if I’d even be able to hear it.

This sounds like mine. I liken it to a clattering sound or a muffled version of a rattlecan to use your marbles description. It is only at a certain rpm range. With regard to sound and noise this new engine is very busy BUT the sound I think most are trying to figure out is the one I described. With respect to all the theories written on this thread, the best solution was to not use ECO mode however my SR5 4WD does not have that feature where i can switch to normal or sport mode like someone suggested. I just have Tow and ECT power modes and the truck defaults to Eco mode with no way to switch it out.

That's exactly it. A bit like a few marbles rolling around in a can of spray paint.

I was listening carefully while I went on an errand today. I think I know what you're talking about when you talk about rattlecan marbles rolling around. Given where the sound seems to be coming from, I think it's actually the high pressure injection pump. It's on the back of the passenger side of the cylinder head. It's variable pressure based on demand, so I expect the sound changing when you dial in throttle is because the injection pump pressure ramps up.

The turbo is in the same direction as heard from the driver's seat, so I suppose it might be that, but the sound isn't one typically made by a turbocharger.

ive said it many times, it is the hp fuel pump...
The noise getting pumped into the cab from the speakers is exaggerating it...

Modern di engines sound like sewing machines, normal....
Nothing to see here, keep the hood closed...
As a senior retired Ford engine tech I’ve been dealing with resonance from direct injection sewing machines, high-pressure fuel pumps, plastic intake manifolds , and plastic valve covers for a long time…
