Everyone I hunt with has SBE II or a nova and hunt same conditions as me with no problems.

I was gifted an Remingto 887 2-3 years ago, and it's ok, but not great and it broke the 3rd time I ever used it.

I stripped the thing twice last week.

And it's stripped right now on the counter ...

I'll see what happens this weekend

Possibly too much oil? Hard to say, guns can just be finicky or a lemon sometimes which I'm sure you know.

You can't beat a SBE II. That will be the gun a buy once I decide to buy another gun. I shoot a Stoeger m3000 and it has only jammed once in the first ~1000 rounds.

Im currently shooting a SBE II and before this had a Nova that I beat the dog shit out of. The SBE has gotten its fair share of beating on too. Its only on its 2nd year but I think I may purchase a M2 before next season being as I don't shoot 3.5" and I love light guns :D. Benelli has done me well, have hunted with plenty of friends who shoot every type of gun out there and I've learned sometimes its really the shooter or the load they're firing. Lemons are out there for sure though so don't count it out on being the gun either.

I will say, it is amazing how incredibly smooth today's autos are. I put a few rounds through a browning maxus this weekend. Made the 870 feel like my old BPS10. Ha ha.

Anyone have any decent goose recipes? I quit shooting them due to the fact that they taste terrible. I don't shoot what I can't eat....unless it's a predator.

Too bad goose doesn't taste like duck!

Been duck hunting for 50 years ( yeah im an old fart). I have my own place and make it easy on myself. I have a house on my duck property and spend a lot of nights there with my son or a buddy and my dog.
The dog is special. She gets my ducks, competes in trials and tests, sleeps on my bed, and rides everywhere with me. She will bust some ice to get a duck.
    Pic from december this season
    I shoot a browning gold

over cleaning is a thing...ive heard of people over oiling their gun and having it jammed up. especially in freezing temperatures.
i read that you were looking into the browning bps...that was my first ever 12 ga. shotgun and i loved it. hunted with it for about 5 years and didnt have one single problem beside the duratouch coating rubbing off in some spots. my dad owned 2 bps (the second one was bought to shoot 3.5" shells) and loved them as well as my brother who shot a bps as his first gun.
now we all shoot the browing maxus. its by far my favorite gun to shoot. I've been shooting it for about 5 years now and have not had one single problem with it. browning makes a good gun in my opinion.

I'm going to invest in a smoker this spring, so I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

I guess I should have elaborated...99.9% of the ones we get are Canada Geese. Obviously migratory birds but also a fair number of residents.

I am very much in favor of autoloaders in shooting heavy loads (ie 3 1/2 inch). Pumps kick the crap out of me, but im an old guy.

well if you're gonna try to cook snow geese i got a good recipe for you. first you pluck and gut the whole thing. then find the biggest rock you can find...big enough to fill the whole inside of the goose. what you wanna do is get your oven nice and hot and stick that bad boy in the oven with the rock inside. set a timer for about 2 hours and once it dings take that baby out the oven. once its out the oven take that rock out and throw the goose in the trash and eat the rock. It'll be just as tough to eat a snow goose anyway. we call snow geese sky carp around here. gotta cook them in a gumbo for a while to get them tender enough to enjoy.

We make it in to jerky most of the time. Pick a deer recipe and try that.
