It's a bit unscientific. But I basically take a target and place it out at 45 yards (I placed a plastic 2L bottle on a sandbar) and shot at it. My hunting buddy and I took note of the shot pattern as well as the imprint in the sand of each shot. We tried the same thing with a couple empty Schlitz 40s (Fo-D's) bottle we found, with my shotgun I peppered the bottle. With the patternmaster out of my buddy's gun, it shattered the bottles.

We usually just get large piece s of cardboard from the local appliance shop then shoot each piece at different yardages with an 8" diameter circle on each one and see how many pellets hit within the circle

Yeah for patterning that works fine and I've done that. Think 3D though. How long the "cylinder" of shot is that is traveling towards the target is what I'm wondering about. I haven't looked in to it but I can't imagine a way to measure this without high speed cameras.

Edit: Interesting read that basically says shot string length is irrelevant due to the vastly differing velocities of shot and target.

Ballistics jel maybe, only way I could think but I guess it would still be inaccurate

It's stock except for the Trac Rac and DU seat covers _-:)
Yes to waterfowl...... Win SX3 and Rem 870....
There's a short goose season coming up in March and snows when they start showing up...otherwise it's pretty much done until next years.
Crows season is still open for a while followed by turkey season...

Got to shoot my buddies new SBE3 today. Balances very well. Really like the narrow fore end. Recoil was the same as my Betetta A300 when shooting 1 1/8oz. target loads. Didn't shoot any duck loads. Couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with it though.

It's a sweet gun for sure. Not sure if its $1600+ sweet though. I think the Franchi lineup, Affinity and Intensity, are the best value in inertia guns right now.

haven't looked much into those models since I was set on getting a super Vinci originally. kind of glad I waited now that the sbe3 released. we'll see what happens when I have time to go shoulder the actual gun.

Dove season is always a tune up for the dog. I've got a 4 month old black lab that I plan on training all myself. It's a task to say the least.

Good looking dog! Mine's got quite a bit of field trial blood so he's always going and pretty wild.

This will be my first time trying to train a hunting dog so we're gonna have to learn together. He's got the drive and wants to please so we will get it figured out, it will just take some time.

Good idea to bump this thread! Season is coming pretty fast! never hunted waterfowl very hard but I always try to make a few trips in the season. Might try to bring my dog too, but I would like to take him to grouse hunting first, and then waterfowl. I also want to move to a new spot and need to prospect... need to find time to prospect haha

Same. It's almost time for formal obediance and then force fetch so it's going to be a fun learning experience.
