Hey guys, this is my first Tacoma and discovering this forum has been awesome. I just bought my truck a week ago but I've already made a few Mods to it.

My question is can I Mod the DRLs to turn on every time I start the engine without having to turn them on manually.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Put your headlight switch on DRL so they are always on.

Yeah, I know I'm being lazy. I would really just like my DRls and Fog lights to always be on.

Cut the Red wire off the 3 pin DRL harness(right under the low beam beam connector). connect the headlight side to a ignition on power.

If you’re too lazy to turn a knob, probably too lazy to mod the lights to be on too. But @mesojdm knows his shit, so that’s what to do if you really want to do it.

How are you being lazy....don't understand.:confused: We DO NOT have to turn the lights OFF...That's automatic...!

The Canadian version has NO option to turn OFF the LED DTRL's..... Truck ON...DTRL's are ON.... Except when the park brake applied.!!

I also like to run the fogs ON all the time....The only way I can do that is to turn on the parking lights, then the fogs will come on.....

I leave it like that... the lights go OFF when opening the door.......!! Come ON when I start her up....

    Works fer me..!!

Ya, the switch on your stalk is set to "DRL" lol.
I think OP wants these on anytime the truck is on. Regardless of stalk switch position

What do you mean by the DRL's..?? DO you mean the LED strip..?? The fogs cannot be turned on unless the Low beams or parking lights are on.... At least in Canada that's the way it is..!!

    I'm Cunfused...

Thats because as I am sure you're aware, Canada requires DRL's to be always on when the engine is running, for cars imported in Canada. Some states may have a similar law, but I can only speak for NY, we do not have such law.

I get in my truck about 10 times a day and I do not want to have to be turning the DRLs on every time I get in. To answer the question of why I just don’t leave the switch on all of the time, then when I turn off my headlights at night I would have to consciously remember to put it back so the DRLs turn on in the morning.

Try this start your truck. Turn on your driving lights. Leave lights on and turn off truck get out and lock door. Lights should go out on their own just not the instant you turn off your truck. Then start your truck, since the light switch was never turned off your headlights should come back on. What you will not have is a light sensor that automatically turns on and off the lights if its dark outside or in a tunnel. You have lights on or off your choice. Try it and report back.

I leave my lows and fogs on 24/7, as we have to have headlights on at all times. It works the same way whether my stalk has the DRLs or Lows on. Like others said, after a bit your lights will auto turn off. I want to say there's an option in the head-unit that let's you determine how long? It may just be the door lock timer.

If you get out and your lows are still on, they (in my experience) take longer to turn off than the DRLs, but if you press lock twice on your fob it will shut them off.

Do you think this is the same for the RAV4? I have auto headlights so never change my stalk but my wife never remembers to use her DRLs.

Yeah didn’t think of that, ours doesn’t either, just the low beams without the tails come on I guess
