I could have sworn there was a setting for DRL in the head unit when i was setting it up but i may be mistaken. Might be worth scrolling through the settings there too.

Ok guys, I figured it out and it's a pretty easy mod. This is for those of us who do not have a Canadian model Tacoma and want to have your DRLs on anytime you start your truck. Now you do not have to always remember to leave the switch on DRl even when turning off your headlights at night.

I've only been a member of this forum for a few weeks and and from what I've seen 99% of it's members are awesome, but there are always those few. I do not understand how some people have so much time to waste. I wish I could use their extra time. If you do not have anything productive to say or to help out why bother commenting.

Well, I'm going to upload the photos of how I did this mod and hopefully it will help out those out there who may be interested.

Your going to upload photos of how to put your light switch the DRL mode?
If you import a vehicle to Canada from the US you need to get a module that will give your vehicle DRL's. I believe that the Tacoma has this module or it is programmed to work on Canadian vehicles. You might be able to buy a module or activate DRL's with Techstream.

On my \13, i just left the lights on, they would go out when the engine was turned off AND i opened my door. The only catch was if i turned the lights off on the stalk and turned them back on without having the ignition on, they would stay on. I was too lazy to dig in and figure out a way to have the park lights on with the ignition as the other method worked well most of the time. I did not like having the dash backlights on always regardless of the outside light setting. I se Toyota fixed that on the Gen 3's. However on my \17, i will probably dig into it and find the park light circuit and connect it to an ignition enabled circuit.

Just subbing to see his steps because i am insanely confused. You literally turn your stick to drl and they go on and off with your car. Well off is 30 seconds after shutting truck off and locking it. But you get it.

If you hit the lock button on the fob twice they go off instantly.

I’m hoping this is a way to make DRL off and DRL on the stalk work the same, instead of tapping just the LED strip. I’d like to see if I can do it on the RAV4 without the strip, I don’t like that my wife seems programmed to turn her stalk all the way off and never uses her DRLs

He doesn't want to have to turn on the DRL's in the morning, after shutting down at night , having to remember to turn to DRL's when turning off headlights...!! OR forgetting and then running without the DRL's in the morning....

I think that's the issue..!! This way the DRL's are truly automatic.!

But you don’t have to. You just leave the light setting on drl. You turn car off. 30 seconds later lights turn off. You start car. They turn on. You never have to touch the light stick. NEVER.

Yeah I don’t see what’s so complicated about this. On my truck (peasant model) there are 4 positions on the stalk. Off > DRL > parking lights > headlights. I leave them set at DRL, during the day I do nothing. When it gets dark, 2 clicks to headlights, when I shut it off, 2 clicks back to DRL.

Like you said, auto lights should be even easier just leave it set at DRL. Headlights will come on when sensor determines, otherwise DRL s will always be on.

That’s 1 less click than going to off lol, it’s even EASIER.

Most people don't have perfect memories and/or habits. I can understands the OP. I have the same issue on my corolla which lacks any kind of auto off feature for the lights. I normally drive with my low beams on for safety, occasionally, I forget and end up driving at twilight with just my DRLs. I want others to see me, there seem to be a lot of blind drivers ut there. I was almost side swipe in a 2 lane left turn setup. buddy on the inside lane decided to use both lanes while i was right beside him in my inferno orange taco, like WTF Dude!! This point is about the amount non observant drivers these days.

I guess I didn’t understand there was a difference between drl and headlights. I thought they were the same thing i just leave my headlights on all the time. And that’s where they are always on when the truck is on. Full headlights. So no clicking. Ever. Just light. Always.
