The earlier OEM headunits allowed you to change the startup screen, wonder if they changed that when they tuned you. Wish this was still an option with the newer ones.

There is also an N-L tip-in option now. Its a tip-in setting between lite and normal. Very smooth and good pep. It's what I run on my truck after running lite for a good while and I like it better.

Yup. I just removed the NL and went to the Lite because it was still jumpy if I accelerated when the truck wasn't at a complete stop.

That's why there's choices :). I have clients like you who love the lite, and I had a client a couple of weeks ago who I tuned with normal and asked me to re-flash him to sport, which he loves. Glad you found a setting you enjoy.

Conversely if you put 35s on with stock gearing, the KDMax normal tip-in makes the truck liveable.

Most people who complained came from 2nd gens, whose 4.0L made most of its power down low. Conversely the 4.0 sounds and feels strained at higher rpms, while the 3.5L is happy to work at 4000 rpms all day.

@Junkhead Not quote sure I agree with you whatsoever. Mine was god aweful slow, had to use extreme amounts of throttle movement and generally was hard and stressful to even drive compared to my 2006 and the past three f150 v6's that I have had(and currently have another, for a work truck). All of the F150's also get better gas mileage and weigh more. So, yes again I think your way off base, based on my experience.

Doubt it, It acted like everyone's reviews explained on their reports. Hence why nearly everyone needs to put a tune on these things.

Reviews on Tacoma world? Take those with a grain of salt.

Folks on here complain about every single thing in the Tacoma, literally.

I thought my 2nd gen was fine except going up mountain passes where I needed to always put it in 4th to keep up with traffic... The 3rd gen is way worse with way more pedal input needed. You actually have to think about the pedal and constantly work it, way more then any other vehicle ive had. Ive never thought to myself before, "wow this is lacking serious power and is stressful to drive", other than on a 3rd gen...

    Nothing yet...
I just bought a used 2016 Tacoma and I found the previous owner's info on the title before I retitled it (bought from a dealer) and reached out to him... he said mine had a KDMax tune on it... I'm glad to know that because this taco launches with the slightest touch to the gas pedal and I thought something was wrong with it... my last 2 3rd gen tacos did not throttle like this.

You can find your local tuner and he can just change the throttle to the lite setting. That is the only tolerable setting on a stock weighted non 35" tire type rig.

My installer didn’t give me an option. I think he just installed what he recommended. But I have the violent surge when stepping on the gas. I’ve given it about 6 months now and I want to love it but I think I’m starting to hate it. I like how it drives the rest of the time though. After reading these comments, I think the lite tip in is what I want. Does it change how it drives the rest of the time or is it just the initial start that it’s adjusting?
