To be auctioned off for the march of dimes in support of my friend who lost their son 2 years ago. He was born at 23 weeks and survived for a week before passing away due to heart complications.

A little more info. It's 16" x 10" and weighs 5 lbs 12 oz. Made from walnut and purple heart.

So sorry about your friends losing a child. That is my worst nightmare.

Nice cutting board. It’s all end grain right?

The bench planer and table saw are the two most used tools. I can also get rough cut lumber fairly cheap. $1-$3 a bf. There is lots of maple, oak, cherry and walnut around my area. Just go search for lumber in Craig's list

I usually use spruce cuz a guy that lives beside me gets giant crates where he works made of 17' 2x8 he breaks down and sells for $8 a piece but he has been out of what he has broken down for a month or two now... I have a mitre saw jig saw palm sander hand planer and i swapped a holster for a router a few months ago and just played with it some today (i dunno anything about it it has a bit in it of some kind but im not sure how im really supposed to work it... I think it may be for like engraving or writing or somethin)

Hand planes get used a lot in my shop, but the bench planer is really handy. Sounds like you have a good start.

I second the table saw recommendation if you don't have one already. Then if you are ready to take your projects to the next level, a planer and jointer. Makes a world of difference and opens up all kinds of opportunities for you when you can dimension wood to whatever thickness you want/need. They don't have to be super expensive. Grizzly makes some really good jointers at reasonable prices and there are several manufacturers of benchtop planers (you'll here the term "lunchbox" planer). I started out with a used Dewalt 735 that lasted me for years.

    Working on it now....UNDER CONSTRUCTION
If you have a high quality router table and router you can joint smaller pieces with a 1/2 shank 3 inch straight bit and split fence. I still do woodworking but for my own stuff. I had a custom cabinet furniture business for many years, but it was slowly killing me. The 70 hour work weeks and then the 8 hours in the booth. I had to give it up. Now I just sell.

I do hardwood flooring. Occasionally will build some other things.

Tile hearth tear out and maple lace in. Ended up staining the floor rosewood.

    IMG_2533.jpg

I do a lot of installs and a fair amount of prefinished flooring but the sand and finish is was I enjoy most.

Here is a bamboo strip engineered floor I installed.

    IMG_2678.jpg

A new white oak floor I put in that got stained a custom color.

    IMG_5018.jpg

And an old white oak floor that I helped refinish during a remodel. Also added on another 1000 sq ft to this house and refinished 3 flights of stairs.

3 coats of pickled oak stain (white wash as best i can figure) its just more than not noticeable. (unstained 2x4 on top for color comparison). The first coat i could literally only tell where i had stained by what was wet.
