Very good work. Hopefully I can get there someday...I need to remedy my fence issue but other than that I should be close to ready...

This was really fairly easy. Find a few videos on YouTube and have a planer and fairly accurate table saw.

I get the concept, just had planer blades that were dull and not exactly square so that was one problem, got new blades and some guides to make sure they are square. Then my miter was not holding square to the blade so got a kreg miter and that problem is fixed, and the fence was warped ever so slightly. Im down to the warped fence that needs replacing. :goingcrazy:

I had some good pieces glued and looking decent then when I went to try and put them together all the flaws of everything else are apparent. I cant really glue them together and make it look decent so I have some wood blocks to play with :(

Finding them isn't the problem...it's paying for them that's the problem.

They are a bit more rare than your typical #4, 5, 6 plane.

Here's one going for a grand.

Yeah, i found a couple this past weekend at the Brown Tool Auction (its held twice a year near where i live). They had 2. I thought i could get one a little cheaper than on ebay. The opening bid on each was $950. However they were far from the most expensive planes sold, there was a wooden plane that went for $6800!
The only way i will end up with one is after i hit the lottery. My limit for "discrectionary" items is about $400, so the #1 is going to be a waiting game.

I agree. I spend most of my days in front of a computer, and i've found that completely unplugging everything (power tools included) is an easy way to de-stress and get back in touch with something real and tangible.

I've been keeping my eye open at the twice a year flea market at Penn's Cave hoping someone doesn't know what they have. Haven't found one yet. Maybe I'll find a couple someday and forward one to you. ;)

Please do! I did pick up a couple thing at the auction. I got a pair of Stanley #98/99 side rabbet planes, a few wooden complex moulding planes, and a set of trammel points. The next auction is in November. They had over 700 lots of tools at the one this weekend.

Nice. I typically resort to ebay and some antique shops around here. Yard sales tend to be dead as far good tools go. Yesterday a #5 showed up on my door step. I need to build a rack for them now.

My tool cabinet has become too small. It's soon about time to rebuild mine. i originally had a plane till, but i wanted a place to hang my chisels, scrapers, and spoke shaves. So i added doors and turned the till into a series of shelves. This worked for a while, but now the plane collection doesnt fit in the shelves. The carcass is made from walnut, and the drawers/doors are ash.

If you are interested in this one, I'd let it go for peanuts.

I've got plans I purchased specifically for this. Those are nice cabinets. I'll need to make 2 at least (3 if I don't stop buying planes)

Fun Fact, The Bailey line was purchased by Stanley back in the day, and as tribute to the Mr. Bailey, Stanley cast "Bailey" into all of their planes. So your plane is most likely a Stanley. I may have some extra totes (handles) lying around. Let me check to see whats in my spare parts drawer. If i have one, i will send it out.

Its an old one. That is a a type 13 from 1925-1928.

    http://www.hyperkitten.com/tools/stanley_bench_plane/dating_flowchart.php#Type 13

With a some WD-40, sandpaper, and some time, you could bring that back to life. My #4 looked about like that when i picked it at a flea market.
