About 1 1/2" thickness and the walnut is about 2" square. It was just some scrap I had laying around.

I live in walnut country. Walnut is cheap around here from local saw mills.

Do you have any issues with warping? I have some maple pieces that want to try and buckle/warp? I need to get some different colored woods to mess around with. I have some hickory I started cutting up yesterday but unsure what kind of end grain pattern I want to try.

I haven't had issues with warping. Most of my wood is well seasoned. And just make sure the people who own them know to not let them sit in water.

Also I wouldn't use hickory. It's an open cell wood like red oak.

I did more work on my live edge Walnut table today. It is so heavy I decided that I would make it able to break in half to move it if necessary. I will also make the legs removable. Each half will be about 100 Lbs and the legs will probably be about the same. I cut each end out to match and mimic the true live edges then rounded out all edges so they will be soft and round.

Next I used a dowel jig to make top alignment pins. I figure 5 would be enough.

On the bottom I will use a bunch of Zipbolts to hold the two half's together.

I also used this time to start filling in the knot holes and cracks with clear acrylic resin.

There will be a lot more to do but I am happy with what I have done so far.

Yeah I read its ok, just need to keep up on cleanliness of it. I have a couple big slabs of hickory that I need to do something with so I figured a cutting board would be good. Ive been trying to get a hold of a guy for some cherry, walnut and maybe try some purple heart but hes been busy and its a long trip for me to go there. I have an appointment next week at the doctors offices so I might try to get a hold of him that day.

Why did you decide to go with large oval openings instead of slits?

Because it's the same as the hole in the box

I also got the idea from David Piciutto and his Make Something YouTube channel. It's his design
