I noticed on that last board I made that I was putting quite a bit of mineral oil on the top side and not the other side, then I put a heavy coat on the bottom side and it seemed to help the bowing.

Finished up my side table today. Pretty happy with how it turned out. I think the pipes were a good call for the legs. All I did was sand and spray paint black.

Always be sure to finish both sides. If not, the unfinished face takes on humidity and causes the face to cup.

    You might consider wood carving.

I got this book when I was very young, and remember how fascinating the work was to me.

A small investment in some basic knives and sharpening stone and you could make some really nice things- you could contain everything in a shoebox.

    Do it!

    Cheers

@deadpocketss also take a look to see what's available in your community. Even if you're in the city, more and more urban areas have community workshops etc that you can drop in on or become a member. They're a great resource to learn a new hobby, and meet others that might have a skill that you'd love to learn.

Where I live we have a company that is essentially a small warehouse space with dedicated tools and 'experts' that can put on classes to learn the basics. It allows people that don't have the space at home to go somewhere and work. Its a pretty cool concept and I think it could work in a lot of areas. https://makercube.ca/ if you want to check it out.

Nice. My buddy lays hardwood flooring as well. He had some gag business cards made up that say “If the wife’s not happy with the price, send her by and we’ll dicker”
