one batch, two batch.. penny & dime.
bought a 1920 Craftsman home 2 yrs ago (I'm the 3rd owner) previous owner used two slabs of walnut as a tool bench in the basement... I found them a perfect match as the homes new kitchen island top. Took a lot of time to clean them up. After the pieces were glued we put in on our CNC at work and planned it down. The Roman ogee edge was done by hand router and is a looooooker!

Took a few minutes the other day to try my hand at making a handle. Now to sharpen the blade...

It's a force fit. It's fist I've tried to make. We will see how long it will stay together

Retired engineer here. I've been doing woodworking for most of my adult life. Here are a few pics of my latest project. A custom card catalog of curly cherry for my son's wedding at the Philadelphia Free Public Library.

No, no stain. I don't like stain on cherry (just me....). Did a wipe on finish (6 coats) which really popped the curly grain.

So I’m making a sign to display some metal house numbers, to be put on a post at the end of the driveway.
Wormy chestnut fit the bill because I have a few pieces laying around and it is a super cool rot resistant wood
    B11E8967-83D9-49F6-AC5A-E51ADA4961D1.jpg
So what kind of finish should I put on it that would be durable/weather resistant but not change the look too much?
I have satin polyurethane and tung oil but am open to other suggestions.....

clear watersealant? Prob going to have to re-apply whatever you use after being out in the elements after a while.

It's what they use on boats. It's varnish for use outdoors or on the water. The 2 big box home improvement stores have them in quarts.

I second what others have said about the marine spar varnish. You could also use teak oil, but you may need to reapply every few years. If you go with the spar varnish, you can use tung oil to cut it. I personally think that is a nicer look than the pure varnish, but you do have to build up the finish over more coats.
