Actually, that is petrified, blue Agave that existed during the Proterozoic and Archean eras when the Agave plant was much larger and denser that those cultivated today. Harvesting the petrified, blue Agave plant is similar to extracting granite and marble and requires great care in order to avoid chipping and breakage. The sample coffee table is an example of petrified blue agave that has broken away from its singular, mother plant stem but nevertheless used by a creative artisan to bring about its true luster and beauty. The legs were obviously created by lathe, using a diamond tipped wood turning tool most often found at Harbor Freight and other fine quality woodworking sources.

Current project, fruit hanger. Oak laminated with a piece of bocote for contrast. Need to finish sanding and round over the edges. Thinking of Boiled linseed oil for the finish

My neighbors adult son passed in an accident last week. I planked a piece of walnut quick so all of the visitors could sign it at the services. I'll probably end up making it into an end table or something for his son.

Any of you wood workers making or thought about making urns for human or pet ashes? We have a man here local that makes urns for pet ashes and gets anywhere from $70 to $140 depending on size.

Trying to copy this post on my front porch, but can’t figure out a way to scribe the pattern onto a template. Any tricks?
