Yes. I do both at the same time. I actually flip the board the opposite way afterwards and pass it thru again. Or you can also put a slight cant to it and place the boards opposing and this should prevent the large piece from cupping. Please make sure you are using a push stick or something like that. A joiner will destroy flesh! It can be a dangerous machine if you are not paying attention. No one else needs to be around to distract you when in use. Sorry, just had to preach for a moment.

Haven't tried place boards opposing to prevent the cupping. I might look into that.

No, there's always time to preach safety. I actually am not using a push stick but I am running big 2x6 boards currently. I do use a push stick running the table saw and would if I was using smaller boards currently. Working in the emergency department is typically the nice, not so subtle reminder I need to be safe in the work shop. The injuries I see are legit; had a nice older gentleman recently who lost the battle with a table saw. Big time.

DON'T wear gloves with a joiner! I'm part of the safety team at work so of course I do a lot of preaching about it. I wear ANSI approved safety glasses, hearing protection, & a dust mask too. But I have allergies to almost everything outside, I just don't let it stop me.

I think Ive read to push from the back of the board rather than the front, otherwise the first bit however minute will be pushing deeper if you start at the front.

That's actually what I do. From the rear and the horizontal middle plane of the board. I guess I should have been clearer. Pushing it down in the front can cause an effect like sniping with a planer.

How big of a jointer if it's one of those table top ones ita going to be hard to get nice square edges or faces. The beds are just not long enough to support the wood. You can cheat them by building a bigger bed area on each side but they need to be almost dead flat.

I would def just use a TS jointer jig over a bench top jointer.

Got any pics? Are these dimensional lumber of the big box store "shelf"?

I like to run one side through the planer (gasp) just to get a smooth side. It's easier on the joiner, especially if its rough cut. Then take a pencil and make a squiggly line down the length of the board. Run it over the joiner and check the squiggly line to see where it is cutting. Once all of the squiggly line is gone, I put that fresh cut side against the fence and join the edge.

I would also make sure the blades are set right. The tip of the blades should be even with the outfeed table at the apex of the rotation.

It’s a large, free standing jointer. I’d have to measure the blade but I think it can do up to 6 inches at a time.

Yes this is cheap, off the shelf crap from a big box store. I made one last year that came out well. Of course this isn’t fine woodworking and the farm table look isn’t supposed to be precise but I think I’ve spent too much time in this thread looking at the perfect stuff being built here and now I’m being picky

lol keep in mind the vast majority in here only have good looking stuff in online pix.

My box looks great on here but I already stripped the finish once and reapplied and under the light I can still see variances in the thickness of the lacquer.

Can’t speak for the rest but compared to actual legit “woodworkers,” I’m a complete novice.
