It's not hard to do but expensive. The end result is well worth it.

You will get a mirror finish, better than any other method.

It works well even if your surface is not even.

    Musts for laying epoxy.

Surface must be clean - any dust or extras will be embedded in your work.

Surface must be level. It flows slowly but will flow off one side if it's not perfectly level.

Temperature control. Most must be set between 70 and 80 degrees.

Mix it well. If not mixed well enough you will end up with a sticky, sludgy mess. Follow the recommendations.

If all those are followed it dries rock hard and makes a great surface.

This is 90% done. I got delayed though. The legs.

Got a mount made for my deer head out of a piece of pine. Now to let it dry so I can mount it.

We finally had a breaking in the weather so I was able to fly in from offshore. Wouldn’t you know it, the weather is junky here and can’t start on turning the coin bowls I had planned.
Here are a couple of the other things I turned (still learning).
My first bowl. Segmented with maple, cherry, and purple heart trimmed

    walnut with shellac

and a another one that was a disaster when it flung off the lathe.

I have a Harbor Freight 10”x18” lathe. I guess you could call this a MIDI. Anything larger than 8” O.D. And there is some vibration. I didn’t know anything about them when I bought it and honestly, it’ll do anything I want. Just learning to turn bowls, pens, and handles. Compared it to the Jet and PSI and they were almost identical. The HF version was a better price. I was completely surprised. I did buy a bunch of extras to turn bowls, but I am a complete newb for this.

For vibration control on a budget...I screwed plywood to the frame of the late stand and filled it with sand. Need help to move it around, but it stopped vibrating.
