You guys are awesome! Thanks for all the speedy responses. I will be safe thats for sure. My father in law cut off 1.5 of his fingers with a table saw a few years ago.

I actually have more questions than answers for ya. Do you need two? Is this going on your truck? From your first post with the emblem, the piece of wood looks different than this post. Same piece? And also, the second piece does not look like it is one solid piece. It appears to be a piece made up of small strips butt jointed? I would avoid butt jointed wood because over time the glue holding it together will fail. I would hate to see you spend the time, only to have it age prematurely.

If you need one, use a planer.

My father cut off his dominate pointer at the second knuckle in high school on a table saw. His lawyer broke in to take pictures of the saw with no guards:rolleyes: Those were the days, that kinda stuff would never go over today!

Yeah, I know I took the guards off mine too. Almost impossible to see what you're doing with the guards on there. Always keep my fingers well away from the blade, and my body out of the kickback zone when using the fence.

Once you get a gnarly kickback you will never want to be without you guard. Google table saw kickback injuries or worse yet table saw injuries. Safety first

Never take your eye off the fence.

If you watch the blade, you are not doing it correctly

I worked for a cabinetmaker in the early 90s and when you use a delta unisaw you can cut through any wood like butter. No need to watch the wood at the blade. If you watch the fence, you can make sure the wood is firmly against the fence at all times preventing binding and a nasty kickback.

    Ever have any accidents?

Making sure the material stays against the fence is definitely important , but equally important is knowing where your hands are at all times with relation to the blade . I have never cut myself on a tablesaw no , thank god , I have experienced 3 kickbacks in that time that I can recall , so if you added up the like 10's of thousands of times I've used a tablesaw vs the mishaps , I would say my safety record is good

Stance, stand clear, scan back and forth between blade and fence. When necessary, use featherboards.

Wow there's some serious talent on this thread nice work. I just finished building a new office desk for my room.

I used pecky-cypress wood for the top and redwood for the edges and base. The pecky cypress wood is relatively cheap and when stained bang for buck is pretty hard to beat. I used a pecan stain it and put glow in the dark resin in the pits of it. I used http://www.woodcraft.com/Product/160676/(H)-Glaze-Coat-Kit-Pt.aspx?gclid=CKPAg-Katc8CFUmRfgodSz4IZQ to coat the top so it would be smooth so I could write on it.
