I use both but generally residential construction is still all imperial so thats what I'm used to

With CNC and 3D printing I am reluctantly using more and more metric nowadays.

I had to buy a metric tape measure from Amazon because you can't find them in the stores here.

metric does make way more sense from a layout aspect , but like I said our residential construction industry is still dominated by imperial even though Canada is officially metric . My code span books are even in metric and imperial

I’ve been working on a crib for our daughter who is due in March. Biggest issue I had was how to make it collapse and store easily without Having screws visible from the exterior. Ended up having the sides pull out, still cut mortise and tenons in them so they’re holding the weight. Then I used nut inserts and some 90 deg brackets to hold them together. I’d never used nut inserts for a project before, but after a minimal learning curve they are very cool. It has two height options, which I’m hoping will be plenty. It’s red oak, just put stain on yesterday and will be using arm r seal on top. I’d read either here or somewhere on the internet that arm r seal was the same finish as their salad bowl, but salad bowl was diluted down, and FDA food safe approval is expensive so general finishes only went through the process for one of theirs. Long story to say that I wanted the finish safe for baby. Also the internet is full of people saying all poly is good safe once completely cured. So who knows. Last thing to do(besides finish) is to make the “box spring” for the mattress to sit on. And I just need to go get some plywood for that.

Good to hear! Just got the first coat on this afternoon. I’m trying to actually give adequate drying time in between coats instead of what I normally do at this stage, which is rush because I get excited.
