The moisture content on that board is measured in BAC.

Been looking at the Shaper Origin since I don't have room for an X-Carve without getting massively creative in ways I don't want to. Wish it wasn't so expensive, though. They need a rental program.

I recently finished a clock for my brother. I wiped the sawdust off with a rag and mineral spirits. I gave it ample time to dry and sprayed it with spar urethane. It left a lot of white spots or streaks on the wood. (Walnut)
Should I not use mineral spirits to clean the wood before using spar urethane? What do you guys use to wipe off sawdust residue before putting a finish on it? Denatured alcohol, acetone or turpentine??

Alcohol or acetone usually. Are they small white spots that are above the open grain?

I have experienced that on pens in the past but with a CA glue finish. Wenge and Walnut do that with the CA. I'm thinking it might be the mineral spirits. I usually only use that for cleaning brushes out. I've had the same one gallon can going on 5 years now. Do you have any scrap pieces you could experiment with?

It's like regular urethane. Out of a can, it needs thinned. It takes longer to dry as well (if it's not thinned).

I’ve experimented a little with drying times with the mineral spirits. I think it may be the type of mineral spirits. It’s that low odor stuff.

Only ever bothered with mineral spirits before sanding to raise the grain. Afterward, tack cloth or vac with soft bristle brush.

My compressor is not great. Just a “pancake” style.
