I worked for years at an LTL freight carrier.

Let's just say there is no such thing as too much crating.

Yeah, it's a lot worse than Ebay sellers.

I've seen radial aircraft engines on a pallet just shrink wrapped.

    1. Forklifts driven by young guys under tons of pressure.
    2. Farm implements next to your shipment.
    3. Transmissions on a pallet with cardboard taped over them.
    4. Etc.

I've seen large, long, seemingly well built crates collapsed upon arrival because someone at the origin terminal saw that nice, flat space on top and decided to load several very heavy pallets on top of it.

    So

    1. These trucks are shaking and bumping and turning for at least hundreds of miles.
    2. Consider adding large steel spikes to the top of your crates.

:wave:Getting into my first woodworking project. Building our dining room table which will be a farmhouse style made from 2x10s, 4x4s, 2x4s and 2x8s. Bought a kreg jig and got the holes done for the table top on Wednesday.

I was going to do something similar and couldnt come up with a good plan for the legs to accommodate the chairs we have so I scrapped the project. I did however learn you can make some antique stain by soaking steel wool in vinegar then wiping the wood with the solution. http://www.wikihow.com/Age-Wood-With-Vinegar-and-Steel-Wool

Yes that is what I was thinking about doing, here are the plans that I am following. Will be building a bench as well for one side and we have chairs for the ends and other sides.

Gf loves em, decided we are actually gonna use regular stain since we have quite a bit leftover from a wood panel wall we did

I wanted to take the rounded edge off the table top pieces using my tablesaw then use dowels to hold the pieces together...Yours should be sturdy as well though
