I couldn't agree more. Some of my projects are good and some look like Homer Simpson built them. i.e. more firewood.

I concur.... I payed dues to the Carpenter's Union for 20 years. I met a lot of Tradesmen, a couple true Craftsmen and a quite a few bums.

I'd say I came down somewhere in the middle I guess..... One thing we all had in common though is that we all took home a paycheck.

Few really liked the job.... it was just a means to the end.
Being restless, not having any kids and wanting to try a lot of different things, I got out and pursued other avenues building related and found my niche.

Your EMT logo tells me you have a steady gig and won't run out of work anytime soon.
I wouldn't look at it as all or nothing. Go slow and have some fun along the way.

I made the mistake of buying a Lie-Nielsen 60-1/2 block plane last year without realizing that they breed like rabbits. Now I’m working on a wall hanging plane cabinet and till. I have a ways to go, but it is starting to come together now.A60CE7A8-7DB3-49E0-8BFB-251036DD2162.jpg

How do you like the low angle plane?

The low angle jack plane is probably my least favorite at this point. I need to play with it more to see if I’m just not using it right. Everything else is amazing.

Like I say, I’m probably not using it right. To be honest, I think I’ve only really tried it on my shooting board to trim end grain.
Btw, saying least favorite when it comes to Lie-Nielsen is very different from least favorite in other tools. Even their worst tools are far better than the best that most companies can make.

Try a quilt rack. Easy construction. Reasonable build time. You can use many types of wood and get as creative or plain as you like or need to in order to keep the price down. You can also carve or stencil decorative prints on them for variety. And best of all, people who make quilts are seriously crazy about quilt making. Provide them with the opportunity to show off their handiwork in an elegant way and they will go nuts! Especially when the price they pay for the quilts will make the price of the quilt rack look cheap.

Hey guys, don’t think I’ve contributed here. I’ve done some woodworking over the years but most recently been doing home improvement stuff.
Looking to make a few combs. I’ve made a couple beard combs and carry one daily. My wife would like one too. I’m thinking about using the bandsaw this time for thinner teeth (cut my beard comb on the table saw). Just need to figure out a sled that will allow me to make consistent cuts. That’ll be the first part of the project.

This is how I would do it for the table saw. For a bandsaw just reverse it and put a stop so the sled could only go so far.

Now for a more advanced version. make a 10°-15° angle and run it from each side it so you don't have a flat joint where the base meets the tangs.

i like it and I will steal it. Haha thanks for the quick sketch up on it. This is a perfect use for all the scrap hardwoods laying around. Lots of beard combs can come from those... just need to get more people to embrace their beards.

    None....yet.
Built a swoop miter jig for a set of stairss for work. No one ever asks for these returns anymore, hence the need for a new jig....

The biggest project that so many of us hobby woodworkers is the workshop itself, but that guy takes it to the most incredible extreme I've ever seen. There is no way possible that anyone could earn enough in woodworking to be able to afford a shop like that!
