Man that’s beautiful. Love the continuous grain, and the walnut maple contrast. That’s slick.

Thanks buddy! The maple is extremely figured curly, so im hoping to get a little shimmer in it with the finish. No one but me will probably ever notice, but y'all know how it is lol.

Yeah, I have a couple turned bowls on my desk at work. Someone was going on and on about how nice they were. Then said “I bet you could sell these... probably get like $15 for them”. o_O

no one else really knows what goes into the work.

Finally finished the desk. Ended up sanding it down again and using oil based poly instead of water based. Here’s the before and after:

Just a friendly reminder.... don't stand directly behind your table saw if you're doing something you know you really shouldn't be doing that way. No reason at all, just a reminder lol

In high school shop class, it was drilled into us to never stand behind the work. I'm good with that :)

In high school shop class, saw first hand the ramifications of not listening, improper technique, and standing behind the loose piece.
Classmate cross cutting a board on the table saw but pushing the part that was on the free side of the blade instead of the part between the fence and guide. well, obviously when the cut finished, the piece between guide and blade pinched and shot back at him instantly. And guess whats about table height in men? Don't know how bad it was but the teacher immediately called an ambulance after checking him.

Yikes! In out woodworking class, at least the first month was classroom only, with extensive safety training. I still remember almost all of that part after 35 years.

    same with the planer lol
My students were running window casing in a single head molder/planer when it grabbed the oak 1x4 stock and shot it out the back. Put a deep dent in the side of a pile of osb. If somebody had been standing there it might of killed them

That’s the kind of class that used to be taught in public schools. I had classes in machine shop, welding and printing too. Many of my classmates ended up with good careers just from those extensive high school classes.

Sarcasm, I caught the tail end of shop classes and that kind of stuff was getting phased out or turned into electives when I was in high school. I wouldn’t even call the classes I took “shop class” (graduated HS in 2016)

Welding or automotive you had enroll in the polytech school and scrap all your other electives. We had a couple engineering classes that taught CAD, basic shop skills, 3D printing, and robotics...not much in the way of woodworking unfortunately.

Definitely a good tip. A long time ago I had a kick back that caught me just above my manhood.
