I like how some people still take pride in their work…

gone are the days. Anymore finish carpentry is slapping up mdf shiplap behind an 84” tv and calling it a day even if the joints aren’t square or trimmed sad. :(

Thank you for that. Wood working is my thing, my passion, something I just love to do. I must have my shop time, I must work with my hands, I must create.
Everybody has a thing, whether it's cars, or art, or whatever, everyone has something they love to do.
The sad thing is I have been looking for a student or pupil if you will, someone to teach this craft, and for free. I have been looking for years. But I can't seem to find anyone, young people today have no interest in the arts or trades. I can remember the first thing I made in junior high school wood shop, a very simple pine spice rack. I remember how excited I was to give it to my mother. It was that joy that got me hooked and I've been doing it ever since. I wish I could find someone to mentor. When all of us old guys are gone who is going to pass the craft on?

    Here's one leg assembly.20210626_182759.jpg
And then I ran some more maple pallet wood through the jointer. Hopefully I can get it planed tomorrow. This will tie the legs together and make a shelf too.

So far in this project the only things I have had to buy are the leveling feet, 1 sheet of 3/4" maple plywood, and a sheet of formica. All the rest of the lumber is free, found, or salvaged wood.

So with the feet, the Formica and 3/4" Maple plywood, you have about 3 grand in it now? HAHAHA

Well, it would be around that in my neck of the woods anyway.

Very nice job. I'm anxious to see it once you have completed the project.

I sanded the leg assemblies to 100 grit and the broke all the edges with some 150. The squared edges of the hardwood would definitely have removed the skin from your knuckles if you bumped them.20210627_114111.jpg
I pre drilled the screw holes for the leveling feet and installed them.
    20210627_121225.jpg
These are beefy and will give great adjustment to the height on the back of the saw.
    20210627_121327.jpg
Both leg assemblies are done and ready to be installed. These will be replacing the spindly legs they are leaning on.

The legs are on. I attached them with screws and no glue. The reason I did this was so that if I ever had to get it out of my basement shop I could take it apart to move it. It is extremely solid right now and will not rack. I got a little sanding to do and then I'll flip it over to do the bottom shelf boards..

Plenty of support for the top to sit on.
    20210627_191058.jpg
The reason I left space all the way around the table is so if I ever need to clamp something to it I can.
