I just built this for my sons wood train collection. It's pretty simple compared to the shenanigans that are going on around here..

 

Anyone have a Risepro moisture meter? I lost the chart that lists the settings for different species of wood.

 

Beautiful, beautiful stuff guys! I love woodworking myself since I'm an arborist... Trees & wood is what I do I'll dig up some images of my work.

 

I have to say it's kind of funny doing a search to see if I can find a manual online only to see one of the search results going to woodnet.net where you asked the same question.

I thought I asked here but couldn’t remember…..
I’m 57, memory isn’t what it used to be.
Anyway, I have a moisture meter and was wondering if you could help me find, oh wait, never mind.

 

I actually bought a General moisture meter at Lowe’s and I think I’ll return it. It has a hardwood and softwood setting. I tried it with some 4 year old oak. It registered as 11% for softwood and 0% on the hardwood setting.

did you cut a piece then measure?

 

Not sure if i would consider myself a woodworker but I have been building fences for around 10 years. Pretty handy with some wood so I’m here for it.

 

Finally finished this cedar patio chair. I plan to be in it alot this weekend!

Measured after i planed it.

 

Might be 0% on the outside. I'd cut a piece and test the middle/core on the end grain

 

That is nice, man! Made of cedar should last forever, with or without a finish. Excellent work!

I built some outdoor cedar stuff about 8 years ago. Burned it last summer because it was full of termites. Had been sealed and was on a pressure treated pad so no direct ground contact but they still got it. Read that if cedar wood is harvested young it doesn't have enough of the protective oils built up that older tree would have in it. Was disappointed in that.

 

Yeah, I didn't know that either. I knew a Swedish guy who built his whole house of cedar, still looks like new today! His name was Gus, lol! Maybe seal it with something, Gus. Outstanding work man!
