This is a wall piece I made as a wedding gift for my best friend.

I think it turned out great for my first circular piece.

Stopped at woodcraft after work today. Main reason I went there was to order a dado throat ate insert for my table saw. It's on backorder until the end of August but at least it's on order. While I was there I picked up a set of Brad point drill bits. Was $57.99 on sale for $37.99 I figured for that price I'd give em a try and see if I like them.20210726_184528.jpg
Then I came home and got the sanding part of this project done.
I got nice legs Sanded to 80 grit with an ros, finished up smoother than you would think.
    20210726_190759.jpg
Then I sanded the top with 220 just to clean it up in preparation for contact cement and laminate.
    20210726_200645.jpg
    Yay! Sanding done.

No one really likes sanding, lol. But it's a part of the craft. I'm not crazy about it but once I start I kinda get into it and just get it done.

Finished the top to my second sewing machine e table. I used Watco Dark Walnut Danish Oil. It’s been drying about four days. Any recommendations on a top coat? I thought either semi-gloss lacquer or wax.

I'd say whatever you have handy. Lacquer would look good.

I have a rattle can of spar. I haven’t used it much. Not this can, just spar in general. I usually just grab the can of lacquer.

Look what ups brought me today. 8" Byrd Shellix head for the 8" grizzly jointer it's sitting on.
    Came well packaged.
    20210730_184903.jpg
This will be a serious upgrade and long overdue. This is heavy, box weighed about 10 lbs. It came with a torx driver and some extra cutters and a shellix sticker.
    20210730_185005.jpg
I went with the Byrd head for the sheer cut style.

I feel like this might be the perfect place to ask a question about wood stain :D

I bought these cheapo depot boxes online to provide a new product on my shop. The idea is to laser my logo onto the bottom, stain them, paint and varnish the lids, and add felt to the bottom. These will be meant to hold dice.

I don't know anything about *properly* staining wood. I bought a few different wood stains; water based, one with polyurethane, and oil based minwax. I was going to test swatch that over some wood conditioner. I bought a cheap pine board that's really similar to the wood these are constructed with. The idea is to keep the cost low, but I don't want a terrible product either.

So what varnishes do you think would be best? What do you normally apply it with (foam brushes, cheese cloth, etc)? Should I buy something to seal the varnish? I'm not going for shiny, but I saw butchers block conditioner and didn't know if that was maybe a product I should think about.

Let me know how you would finish these with time and cost in mind!
