Sad thing is all the shop programs Here are gone, and the kids really have no interest anymore it seems. I offered to mentor the young man next door to me for free and he said thank you sir but I have no interest.

I said the same thing to my sister years ago. Now I wished I would have taken her up on the offer. I will teach my two boys though; as long as they are willing.

My son took woods 1 and 2 but stopped because he didn't like the teacher.

Which sucks because woods 3 builds sheds and woods 4 builds a house.

I wish we would have had a "shop" class back in my HS (small private catholic school). Back in the 60's everyone was pushing Pre college prep courses. I went for 2 years -then got bored and joined the AF ahead of being drafted. Eventually got BA and MA , but was not ready for college at 18 -19. I could of learned some real practical woodworking skills if given the opportunity. Oh well -thats life and water under the bridge!

Anyone use a laser engraver to mark your projects? I had thought about getting an electric branding iron to put my name on the bottoms of my boxes and bowls. They run around $100. Someone on a Facebook woodturning page has a Laser Pecker engraver. They do MUCH more than a branding iron. Amazon has them for $250 right now.

I have the old fashioned branding iron style. I do have a glow forge that I could make "tags" and glue them fast but I like the iron better

I would not recommend the glow forge. We've had to return it already which is not an easy feat. And they give you a refurb. The process was a pain in the ass. It had stopped cutting through material. I think the power supply was failing but they never told us what failed.

Got a new to me toy. About $250 cheaper than a new one. This thing hasn’t been used much, looks new. Quite an upgrade from my little Porter Cable 16”.

Yeah, plus they areimites on their ability. Great if you want a side business making ingrabed trinkets and such. We plan on stepping up to a Laguna. The Laguna can do round objects.

We have the plus which is $4 k. The pro is $6k and only has a slightly more powerful laser and a pass through. The Laguna is $4500 and you can get accessories.

The GF needs internet. The Laguna doesn't.

I made a router guide out of some scraps and plowed out the miter grooves in the outfeed table.
    20210814_190245.jpg
Grooves done, then I sanded the edges of the grooves.
    20210814_193759.jpg
Both tables are now installed and leveled.
    20210814_201851.jpg
I'm calling this project done, just need to wax the tops.
    20210814_203148.jpg
This is a big improvement to my new saw, similar to my old saw. I like the white tops as the reflect light nice. These will be multi use tables, I'll also use them for assembly and glue ups and for finishing. These large tables make it very safe for me to cut sheets of plywood and long boards by myself and accurately. I don't have to support the stock as it comes off the saw or worry about catching the boards.
I did this on the cheap and its all hardwood. The only things I purchased was the 3/4" plywood for the top, the formica and contact cement, the leveling feet, and some miscellaneous hardware. All the rest of the lumber came from pallets.
