Does your belt track straight? I have the 16/32 and I'm constantly adjusting it.

sold the delta for 3xx and bought the supermax for 700. Back then I believe they were going for 1500 new but man I just looked and covid made it go to $2k

deals are out there in the used market if you have time. Definitely I would be tempted to buy it again after building a 36” African mahogany in 12/4 with it. Saved so much time and had nice results

my 19/38 don’t track straight and I would have to loose and push the conveyor belt to the opposite side every 10 mins or so. I blame it on the belt itself and been meaning to buy a new one but recent projects haven’t require me to use the drum sander yet

It's a must if you're doing end grain stuff.. I used mine yesterday to fine tune some plexiglass strips for the box I made HAHA

Def safer than using a planer for end grain

I've found that you can use a planer for end grain but it requires building a box around the project to prevent tear out. It's rather hard on the blades though. I usually use pine for the sacrificial box.. mostly 2x4 scraps. Even with the drum sander it's ok t use them to prevent tear out on the ends .. learned that the hard way.

Keep looking and keep saving for a drum sander though. Do you have a dust collection system? Kinda sorta a must too with a drum sander to avoid huge messes.

I just have that Harbor Freight one.. but it's worth every penny. I just picked up a plastic barrel to make some mods to it. (see @woodtickgreg posts about this)

Likewise but I use the bags. It's nice to see when it's going to exploded from being full. LOL

By adding the barrel in between, it keeps the bag from being filled.. it's truly a pain in the ass to change those things. I have a second lid so I can put that on and haul it out to dump it.

Yup, nothing goes in the bag and it's so much easier to dump that drum than mess with the bag.

Wood is free and its everywhere, you just have to learn where to look for it. If you look at some of the projects I've made here from salvaged pallets they are all hardwood. Oak, maple, cherry, and even walnut. I've learned where to look for stuff like this in my area.

I got the top glued on then got the barrel shape roughed out. It needs a bit more work on the shape before finer sanding. Cut the miter key slots then wiped it with a damp towel to see what the grain looks like. I think the grain pattern on the top is going to look really good.

Once I get the miter keys in and cut it will be time to cut the lid. I'm hoping there's not a lot of glue squeeze out on the inside. Install barrel hinges, then a lot of sanding and on to finishing, which will likely be 4 or 5 days.

Well I finally got some time in the shop to finish the install of the new miter saw. I made a plywood dust hood with free wood, lol. I did cover the pegboard on the back too.
    20220115_144312.jpg
I hooked up a automatic switch for the shop vac.
    20220115_144358.jpg
I had to drill a hole to pass the yellow cord for the shop vac through.
    20220115_145504.jpg
Then I drilled a 2" hole for the rockler dust hose to pass down through to the shop vac.
    20220115_150214.jpg
Since I don't always need the tall fences I also drilled a hole for the post of the fence to go into for storage next to the saw.
    20220115_154540.jpg
Same thing for the right fence. Here you can also see the dust collection hose.
    20220115_154607.jpg
I did the same for storage of the hold down clamp.
    20220115_155259.jpg
Since I took off the table extensions I made some holders to store them. Made from some scraps of wormy ash.
    20220115_164149.jpg
And I mounted them to the sides of the dust hood.
    20220115_164159.jpg
So I'm going to call this install done, back in business!
    20220115_172154.jpg
The only thing left to do is remount the ras saw so the fence lines up. But that's for another day. I only use the ras for breaking down rough sawn lumber.
