Any woodworkers?

I still use bostitch for framing and palm.. they make a tico nailer now. Great for hurricane straps.

Yup looks different than the one I used...but man....waaay better than filling all those holes in straps for the inspectors. My inspector checked every one on my house...I hand nailed them...it was a lost day of work nailing them.

 

Yeah , thats the Strapshot , thats what I have , got it about 4 or 5 years ago for seismic connectors

 

Yup great for decks or any worse case scenario straps.

 

Did you ever count how many nails that is.....in an entire house....it's baffling.

 

This next house I'm building has 9 or 10 shear wall panels with hold downs , straps and 2" OC edge nailing for panels

 

Nice...glad you have the gun cause I just did the math and hand nailed 1300 of thos bastards...which are not always easy to get at....lol

 

We used to use the palm nailer

 

I hate hoses....I will when I have to...but hand nailing is faster in certain scenarios.

 

Not with a 36 or 48" strap lol

Shear walls are a fact of life in any new house out here

 

I was on a job I had to weld in x bracing for those. They asked all the carpenters....who can weld? I was dumb enough to raise my hand...it was February

 

They are getting more and more common here. I no longer have to special order the embedment anchors anymore.

Or educate the architects. But that is a whole different animal.

 

Well..balloon framing really is similar. That is a staple from the old houses here.

 

I have renovated quite a few ballon frame houses.

 

My child hood house burn down, it was balloon framed, we basically replaced the whole inside. It's like the whole house is gable ends.

 

How is balloon framing like a shear wall panel ?
