Thanks a lot. Unless you count shop class in high school (when it was still offered) I’m self taught in woodworking just like tinkering on the 1st gen Tacoma. Expanding one’s skill set is so rewarding. Although with the help of this forum I supppse I’m not fully self taught in auto mechanics after all :)

Same for me. I had wood-shop and, believe it or not, plastics class. Hadn't done anything with wood except remodeling since them. It's fun, isn't it?!

Same for me, school wood shop and then self taught in everything else. And now I'm a genius because I have YouTube, lol. I'm kind of a jack of all trades but wood working is my favorite thing to do. When I'm in my shop I'm in my happy place.

It's too bad the don't teach that anymore. We had a great wood curriculum when I was in high school, as well as machining, welding, printing, wiring, home building....

I want to say alot of woodworking is figuring out artistic ways to fix mistakes.

Instead have you considered plugging the holes with wood, then redrilling?

:rofl:I am finding out that no truer statement has ever been made! It's been an exercise in patience and learning calming techniques.

I created a jig to get the holes drilled exact. Practices on scrap. Still was off. Partly because the tolerance need is ridiculous - need 4mm but got something like 3.58mm and that throws it off, but also because the hinge is 8mm and the drill bit is 8mm. The hole needs to be ever so slightly larger. There is no drill bit size that gives that minimal tolerance, so I used a smaller bit with sandpaper taped to it and move the box around the spinning bit. This does not provide a consistent result. So, figuring out how to make the 8mm hole just a tiny bit larger equally in every direction would help. I'm not sure starting over again at this point will work.

So, until I get some more experience, I think the barrel hinges will go on the shelf and I'll use something else!

Thanks. Took my time and didn't overdue my beer drinking while work was in process. Ha!

Very nice, but you should have used barrel hinges!

Man I miss a good cigar, I can never touch them again. I smoked cigarettes for 38 years, been quit for about 13 or 15 now. Hardest thing I ever did. I'm afraid if I smoked a cigar I'd fall right back into it. But I did enjoy them and miss them.
