Bought a Ridgid 14" bandsaw about 4 years ago. Decided a few weeks ago to get it out and put it together. First thing I noticed was the roller bearing block behind the blade was broken, no big deal I could buy another one anyway and the lower bearings were still good. Got it all assembled and noticed the upper wheel was rubbing against the housing. Figured it was just the tracking on the upper wheel was off from the factory. Turned the tracking some and looked back to tighten the blade up to the proper tension to get it tracked right on the wheels. 3 turns of the tension wheel and I heard a loud pop and a bang. Looked around the front and the upper wheel is laying on the ground. o_O.

Upper wheel broke off the saw completely from the top. Guess I know now why Ridgid doesn't make any shop tools anymore. I now have a brand new $400 paper weight that won't cut a damn thing. Looking online most of the parts are discontinued and some from other 14" saws may fit with some modifications. Don't think this thing is worth messing with. What a POS.

Would a shear wall be on a gable end....if not .....I am really confused.

I know I',m a little late to the party but buy the best tablesaw you can afford. no need for a sliding miter saw just build crosscut sleds for the table saw. Unless you are doing a lot of resaw work big band saws are just space hogs and a jig saw will do most of what you need a band saw for in a more DIY setting. Also a major thing to think about when getting tool is Dust collection. Sawdust is no joke on your lungs. A simple set up using a good shop vac and an oneida dust deputy for bigger pieces and an old box fan with a furnace filter should be on your short list of tools.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.

I have the dw7491. Came with the mobile stand. I love it. It's the best saw I've used.

It was set up perfect out of the box. It's extremely easy to use.

There's no way I'm cutting trims on a tablesaw with a crosscut sled lol

Trimming the end off a piece of 18' long baseboard springs to mind haha

I'm certain that is a great tool but there's no way that is going to be as accurate or as easy for trimming and fitting the stain grade trimwork I generally do versus a chop saw

edit, realized this is not completely a woodworking thread subject but maybe someone has some ideas either way, thanks.

Guys I am wanting to do something like in these pictures for our basement ceiling. It has an old drop ceiling right now and I hate it and wish it to be gone. However I need to retain access to a few things in the ceiling (water meter, access for duct cleaning and whatever...). I have not figured out how I can hold the batten boards up yet not have to see the screws which hold them up and make it so they can come down to gain access to the ceiling. I thought why not use white screws (if we paint the batten boards white) but I feel like there has to be another way I just don't know about.

    Any ideas?
