Unfortunately we’re not taking the time to make a block bench (not my choice), just using some 7/8 red oak ply

4’ might be a bit wide to support ply even with a ledger…might want to back it off to 32” assuming your studs are 16”oc

Finishing up a new gate for my mom. It’s a welded metal frame with ridiculously overpriced wood. It’s predecessor (circa 2005) is still holding strong in the background.

Is that a 2x10 on top of the 2x4 top plate to give the shed a little overhang?

Looks good but don't go too crazy on that front edge since it's just plywood!

I am looking at getting a band saw for my shop. I should have got many years ago, but... ;)

Anyway, I have several Delta tools, and have had good experiences with them. I am looking at a Delta 28-400 saw.

Does anyone have any experience with this saw? Or suggestions as to a good saw to get?

I realize the Delta of today is a completely different company than the Delta of several years ago. I hope/assume the new company is maintaining the quality/reputation of the previous company.

No experience with that bandsaw but I purchase a Delta Bruzer miter saw a couple years ago and once I learned it, it’s been phenomenal. Build quality is good and after I got it square (that was a 2 hour ordeal with lots of cussing) it’s held it since. I also Haven’t had to deal with there customer service so can’t speak to that either.

Compared to some of the other folks work here, my Sunday seems quaint.
SWHBObeyed wanted a coat stand for her sewing loft (over the garage). I thought a wall mounted rack would be best, but it was a coat stand was what was requested. I headed out to the shop, found a nice piece of white oak from the property...milled about 25 years ago, so dry and stable. And voila!

Run away from anything of todays delta. It's a Chinese owned company now and their after the sale customer service is terrible. And their new products are not much better either. If I was in the market for a new bandsaw today I would probably spend a few dollars more and look at a Rikon, at least they have great customer service and a 5 year warranty. If budget isn't a concern I would the look at a Powermatic or Laguna saw. And let's not forget the Grizzly saws, they have made them a long time, have great customer service and they stock parts for them. I have a vintage delta saw that is much better than today's delta's, if you can find a used one at a fair price and do a few upgrades to it they are a great saw. But I wouldnt by anything from todays delta. Jmo.

Tom I know you've been around a while and know a thing or three about wood working and being in a shop as I have. So I'm going to say that miter saws are notoriously bad at dust collection, some worse than others. It's just how they work, most of the dust is created above the table. I actually run 2 dust collectors with mine and some of the dust still escapes. You will need a large hood on the back side to try and funnel dust into a collection port. I have a cyclone collector for that fitting and use a trigger operated shop vac on the saw dust ports. My makita does pretty good with dust collection, better than most I think, but some dust still escapes. It's just the nature of the saws. Like kilo Charlie said, I showed mine in this thread earlier. Starts at about post 8620? Ish.

I have the big Rikon. It works well, I have used customer service ( casting holes in table, filled with solder) it is a decent saw, but I regret not buying the smaller poermatic. Just my experience.
    The Rikon does everything ok.

Right now the bag on the saw is the only collection I have. I plan on running hose to my Ridgid dust collector. Just trying to come up with some type of hood, home made or something from a woodworker store. I have a lot of screen shots of hoods so I have a head start I guess you could say.

Just a simple plywood box for a hood works for most guys. At the back of my saw I have about a 6 or 8 inch hole that is reduced down to 4 inch and that's hooked to the dust cyclone. That's all I used for years. Now with this new saw I also have the shop vac hooked up to where the bag would go, so now I have double the suction for dust. Works pretty darn good.

If I were in the market for a 14” bandsaw I would probably consider either the Jet or powermatic ( both owned by the same company) I’ve assembled quite a few of these saws and they are decent, with the powermatic you can also get a riser block and double your resaw capacity. Sadly I wouldn’t consider any of the New Delta stuff, my 14” Delta bandsaw is from 1947 and my unisaw is from 1955, these machines were made great and if you’re mechanically inclined these old saws may be worth considering
