Here's a 14' long standing table I built for a local hotel. Hard maple stained dark and the center of the top stained to match the floor. Electric/internet popups with wire running down the middle of one leg into the floor.

Did a bunch of work for Longaberger Basket Co years ago. Here's a nice checkout desk made of pine with a "garden" finish I came up with, galvanized steel tops and Longaberger basket weave insert on the front.

Top pic is sycamore on the left, poplar on lower right and eastern red cedar on top of the poplar and in the background stack.

Lower pic is cherry on top and, left to right, 5/4 sassafras, 5/4 red oak and 5/4 sassafras.

I love working with high-end matched veneers. In this case a santos rosewood entertainment wall created for the former CEO of a very popular Indiana diesel engine manufacturer. I teamed up with another one man shop and we did his entire 6,000 sf condo overlooking the Lucas Oil stadium in Indianapolis.

Santos Rosewood "men's lounge". The 12' long fish tank was fun getting up to the condo. Had to call in the Otis Elevator guys and they used a sling under the elevator to hoist it. There's a lot more to that story but the end result is what matters.

Been saving this matched set of figured purpleheart for something special.

This rack holds a couple thousand feet of misc wide and figured (curly, birdseye, etc) kiln-dried hardwoods. Trouble is my customer base rarely asks for these characteristics. I'd sell a lot of it but it's such a hassle and everyone wants "a deal".

Would it make much of a difference if I build it in a hot unconditioned shed and move it to a hot unconditioned house hahaha

woodsmith is also a decent magazine. It's produced right here where i live. I've gone to some of their classes. They are pretty good about teaching the basics and safety too.

I currently have a subscription to Wood magazine. It isn't too bad either.

Yes, and this is why (or one of several reasons why) I have not attempted indoor furniture yet. Next house, better shop/garage. My current one is a small detached single car sheet metal icebox/oven.

I like Fine Woodworking and Fine Homebuilding. More expensive subscriptions but lots of good info. They'er the kind of magazine you don't want to discard.

I used to get Wood Magazine but it was pretty elementary overall. Still had good info. It was the kind of magazine I would cut out what I wanted and toss the rest.

I worked for another company of 50 people from 1894-2003 and was basically the general manager overseeing all departments. We were doing a lot of work for some designers over that way and after I left they were getting really poor customer service (drawings not representing what was delivered, finishes that don't match, and verrry late deliveries). They tracked me down, knowing that I was the do-it-all guy who made things happen, asked if I was involved in the woodworking industry any more and started sending me work. I started doing some smaller stuff for them but worked my way up to doing entire school and public libraries. This kept me really busy until the economy went kaput.

I was working on the Whiteford Maryland library job when they ordered the desk for Cecilton. I remember that I delivered and installed it when finishing up at Whiteford. I seem to remember a cute librarian over there too which was watching closely over me during the install. :D Yes, it's basically a one day drive from here. However, on many occasions they would have their own installers do the work so I just loaded the stuff on a straight truck.

Nice on you. I am a general contractor, and over the last few years have been doing more and more woodwork, Id love to make the switch to that but finding the work, seems to be the hard part. good customers are also hard to find, it seems. Just finishing up a huge finished basement where on the outside of the walk in shower they wanted floor to ceiling wainscoting to match the cabinets. but they wanted it cheap.... so we used unfinished cedar stained and glazed to match and even showed them how across the pieces the grain and color would be somewhat different. and they were fine with it on the samples but didnt like it on the walls. So we ended up painting it....
