This was a long project but it’s finally done. Did the last cut and buff yesterday

don’t mind the router job. I was having trouble keeping my bit from slowly inching deeper as I was working so it looked really botched once I got the logo routered out. Thankfully dyed epoxy means the bottom doesn’t really matter lol. I chalked it up as a more mechanical connection for the epoxy

Planning to spend a little time on photoshop today to get some concepts on paper or maybe just literal paper. Its been a crazy here. We are going to see what froze and what didn't freeze. But that won't be all day, so I'll have down time.

Also I wanted to report that the cutting boards were a hit! And the desk was finally delivered. :)

Mark II walnut and vacuum veneered maple burl box. I learned alot on the first one. I learned even more on this one.

So I chamfered all edges with a block plane. Tear out was managed by doing the long edges first, and floating pressure off at the end of each stroke. I kept the mouth closed up very tight, and took just tiny bites of the wood. This walnut is over 70 years air dried and seems to be the most splinter prone wood I have ever worked with. Again all the walnut is from a single board three sides in order and the front piece from along side the others.
The maple burl is four matching flitches of veneer, kept in order so the grain pattern repeats inside and out.
The hinges are cool. Vertex round mortise 105 degree stop hinges. You use a 35 mm fornsner bit in a drill press by hand turning it. Offset 1/8th to the box bottom.

I am very happy with this one.

Lol, this is the first box I ever made. 5 years ago. My daughter Zola wanted it because it was my first one. I told her I would get better. She loves it though and shows it to people who come to our house.

Anybody build a electric fireplace mantle off their wall that did not go all the way up to the ceiling with the framework? Just looking to build this with the top/mantle shelf being roughly 56" up the wall, then mount the tv on the wall above it.

Do you have a picture of where you are thinking and the fireplace? This is a mantle I built a few years ago, I decided to just put the TV on top of it instead of hanging it.
