Any woodworkers?

Thats cool! It is for my small table.

 

When you are cutting 1/2 if the leg away in that slot, all your senses are telling you that the leg will fail catastrophically. But when the cross-beam slips in you feel it firm up and become able to take more cross-body blows than 4 simple legs.

 

This picture shows the full table. Repeat the in-cuts at the top just under the checkers, and maybe a slot for books. Clearly the 2 flipdowns are more than a table requires.

 

Here are a few other legs I saved that I thought were interesting. Not sure how they match with the style of the tabl, but interesting.

 

Here's the table top for those who haven't seen it yet.

 

Mortice and tenon or edge glued for the sides?

 

Large shelf, 8 ft before it was decapitated to get it out of the basement, 4 ft wide. Crude mortice and tenon to let walls be thin and much open space.

 

Someday I may have the skill to create good hidden joints.
