I've been using a foam brush, and it's "ok", but I think I'll use a rag like you suggest in the future.

I don't use General Finishes stain, but when I do stain, I use a rag (such as a piece of an old sock) and toss it when I am finished. Much easier than trying to clean a brush.

is it water-based stain or oil-based?... i'd imagine the water-based stuff will dry pretty quickly on you... if you're having trouble w/ drying too fast, try re-activating it w/ whatever will dissolve it before it cures (water for water-based, ...mineral spirits for oil-based...)

...so, i was getting tired of nearly knocking the fire extinguisher off of the cheap plastic wall holder "thingy" that came w/ it, ..decided to make my own solution:

...i'd consider looking at the instructions on the back to see which is more ideal for your application, and your glue-up procedure... ...also, keep in mind, ...different glues leave a different colored glue line... if the glue line will be perceptible, choose the one that will blend the best w/ the particular wood/finish/look...

titebond 3 is a water resistant formulation and has a longer open time than titebond 1 and 2...

i like titebond 3 mainly for the longer open time, ...so i use it when i have a fairly complex sequence of operations for glue-up, ...i.e. lots of joinery to coat, ...pieces to go together at once, large pieces... if you need more open time, there is titebond extend, ..longer open time than titebond 3...

i haven't used the elmer's mentioned, ...so can't comment to its performance as claimed, ...but, again, ..in making a selection, i'd compare it based on the aforementioned characteristics for the application at hand...

They appeared to be nearly identical, open time, waterproof, full cure time, color, and compatability with paint and stains. But the Elmer's was nearly half the price.
I went ahead with the Elmer's, I'll see how it goes. The glueing I've done so far... 10min. open time might be stretching it a bit. It was getting a little thick after 5.

Depending on what I am doing I used Titebond II or III with III being the most common in my shop.

my latest project a spec 15 bottle maple wine rack with a cedar top. Working on getting a few pieces together for a local farmers market and this will be one of the big items to complement some cutting boards and wood 6 pack beer caddies.

...we've probably all experienced the "oh crap" feeling during glue-up! for comparison, try the titebond 3 next time on a similar glue-up situation, ...i think you'd be just fine w/in 10 minutes... i use titebond extend if i need more time than that (it's a lot less viscous)...

...should be just fine w/ dowel joinery or similar... the hanging rail is good practice at half lap joinery... enjoy!

I love woodworking. I am no professional by any means, but I think it's very therapeutic. Here's my latest project. My Mamaw wanted a perch so her dog, Molly, could sit and look out the front window.

The lower portion slides in an out and the two support legs fold up out of the way; held in place by a magnet.

After building it and driving 9 hours to deliver it, I was concerned Molly would be afraid to jump up onto it. But she was on it before I could get the cushion on it for her, haa.
