Today's after work progress. I ran the first completed section through the planer. First time the mighty dewalt 735 ever struggled. But it was pulling a massive 12" heavy hardwood beam and cutting at the same time, lol. Actually impressive for a benchtop planer.20231020_191534.jpg
It cleaned up really nice. I was shooting for 3 5/8" but it cleaned up at 3 1/2" close enough.
    20231020_194051.jpg
Then I treated some imperfections with ca, I'll scrape that down tomorrow.
    20231020_204141.jpg
Another section is in the clamps, 2 more to go.
    20231020_204148.jpg
Last thing I did in the shop today was to wax the bed and tables on the planer, it might help with the feed of the heavy top sections.

Fuckin around in the scrap bin. I like the concept, probably next batch of frames will make a few with a bit more complicated arrangement.

I like it. Simple is good. You want to make sure that the frame compliments what is framed. If the frame is more attractive then what is framed then that is a problem.

I think your 5-year-old would think that even that frame does not outside their artwork.

Yeah, these are all part of larger pieces. I'll post up photos of the batch when they're done, I need to get glass cut for them.

I need to throw out this can of wipe on polyurethane, I just do not like the finish. This was the fourth coat.

If you want a wipe on one step, I've had very good results, particularly on furniture, from Watco Danish Oil. It's very forgiving and also easy to repair.

I'm pretty sure I've never purchased a tool without having an opportunity to use it as soon as I get it out of the box.
I'm kidding of course, but I'm an opportunist that way I guess - any project is a justification to buy a tool if I can use it right away. Hopefully that first time isn't the only time.

Agree that swirl marks suck, and not much to add beyond what already been said. The trick for me has been meticulous cleaning between grit changes.

And this looks like something I need. I might have to go out a buy a tracksaw too.

That and their parallel guides are on my wish list for sure!

The track saw was purchased for a couple of reasons. It would have been very helpful on a couple of my past projects. I feel that it will be safer to take the tool to the wood on large glue ups. I also have a couple of planned future projects that it will be used on.

The finish is drying on the quilt ladder. I will post pics when it is complete.

Yeah man. I do so much with my track saw. I use mine as much as I use my table saw. I deal with a lot of rough and live edge lumber so getting straight lines on uneven and wonky wood is an everyday occurrence. Jointing uneven edges with my tracksaw is one of my favorite uses. Get any brand you like...they all work the same. I have a festool but if I had it over again I'd save money and get a Bosch or a Kreg.

My festool tracksaw is probably the most useful tool I’ve bought in the last decade.
And I’ve bought a ton of tools in the last decade!

I know this is probably getting pretty boring and monotonous but it does show the process.
So I took the clamps off the 2nd section and ran it through the planer. If you wanna get a workout move one of these sections around, lol.
2 done and 1 to go.

Glue spread. I Iet it sit for a few minutes to kinda soak into the ash pores and get tacky.

    Clamped.

I more section like this, and then glue those 2 together. Then I can move on to the legs and base.
