That's a horrible idea. What time?
I like what you're doing with the base. The ends look great.

Thought for the middle ones, why not just glue them to the bottom of the frame with the side grain? Put a 45 on the ends to hide them a little. And you'd have a single profile on the frame from the front on the cross members. May even look like one piece of wood.

When is use, the two inboard "posts" will mostly hide. If you want slightly better strength to keep them from buckling, try a flat "H" shaped sheet that hides inside that center portion, locking those "posts/legs" into the center space with the open top/bottom of the "H".

The leg situation has been solved and the base is now attached. The center legs are invisible unless you lay on the ground. The whole structure feels very stable / strong.

Center section grill is mocked up just to see if I like it and I do.

Currently you can see an outline of the frame from backlight. This should not be an issue once it is pushed up against the wall

Need to make the other two grills and finalize their placement. They will be held in place with small magnets that will keep the center from bowing in like it currently does.

Then finish with Natura one coat. Drawer slides will hopefully be here before next weekend then I can build the two bottom drawers and be finished with this project. Then I can order my new TV for it!

This has taken me much longer than I originally anticipated, but the final outcome will be worth it in the end.

The human eye is worthless at measuring distance, but can easily pick-up "out of square". I see what is basically "squared up".

    Nice work.

Still in scrolling mode, I'll be doing this for awhile. Scrolling is a nice break from all the other things I ha e going on. Eventually I'll get back on the workbench project.
Also making some crosses for the church. This is some oak pallet wood scraps.

    Actual size, lol.

The final result, just needs to be oiled for a finish.
    20240723_162408.jpg
After cutting the first one I reduced the thickness from 3/4" to about 1/2" It cut much easier, oak is pretty hard.

So I've been making some progress on the church giveaways.

As far as I can get until Monday. The drawer slides and more finish will be here then.

Ok, so the wife approached me about table saw safety. You can guess where this is going! Since its "her" idea and I hope she doesn't have a secret TW account I'm thinking about the Sawstop 1.75hp PCS with 36" table and T Fence. Also looking at the industrial base. They are $350 off until September which makes it all the more interesting. Anyone have this saw and have thoughts about it?

I don't have one, but saw a good demo and review on Bourbon Moth YT channel. It's what he uses, he just has the brand covered because he's not sponsored by them. If budget weren't an issue, and I could see how much the future me would use it, I would consider it.

There is also a move in Congress to require the technology on all new table saws sold in the US. It is meeting with a lot of resistance, so not sure if we'll see it or not. But the competition could lower that price a bit.

I'm not so sure the price would go down when you consider that most competing saws are already pretty similar in price.
I'd love to have a saw with that capability but the reality is that I just don't use it enough to justify.
I just have to keep remembering that my table saw is always trying to kill me and act accordingly and I'll be ok. :annoyed:

FWIW, If I were to upgrade, I'd definitely go with the 3hp. When I upgraded to my current 3hp Unisaw, I was blown away by how improved things were. It just cuts like a hot knife through butter, even with 2" oak!

Personally, I would go with more power and a shorter fence. My FIL has a Powermatic with a 36” fence and it takes up a lot of real estate in his shop. It is also typically piled with stuff and unable to use the full capacity.

I also use my track saw to break down sheet goods. I think it is easier and safer, for me, to do it this way. Hence, why the extra fence capacity would not be a priority.

I would love to have a Sawstop for their advanced safety features, but would probably be almost as safe to reinstall the blade guard on my current Grizzly 1023RL.

if you have the funds, the wife is on board, and it is what you want, go for it and let us know how you like it.

I'd love the shorter saw as well but the premium fence only comes with the longer saws. 100% on the track saw, I rarely cut stuff over 28 inches on my tablesaw.

As far as power goes I know its a sacrifice but my current saw has not let me down. I've about reached capacity on my electrical service and don't want to throw additional $$ at a dedicated circuit for a new saw.

Yeah if you have the funds and the wife is on board with it get the sawstop, they are really good saws even without the safety feature. I have nothing against them.
A few years ago I purchased a Laguna f3, it was the best bang for the buck imo. It's the first saw I ever had that I actually use the guard on because it works, RIving knife is cool too. I love this saw.
When I was comparing saws I did look at the saw stop, it was over a $1000 more than the laguna at the time. I'm comfortable with .y saw, I respect it and fully understand the dangers of it. I know any saw wants to cut your fingers off so I respect all of my saws and machinery.
I'm 64 years old, an active wood worker, and I still have all of my fingers.

Saw stop - this will apply to the job site ones as well, so if you can work with one of those, ...

I think my dad's Craftsman might be a 3 hp. I'd have to go out and check. It's a 220 motor, and I don't have that so it hasn't been fired up yet. New house. I have used it and it is a workhorse.

I visited a friend a long time ago in Texas and he gave me a bunch of Mesquite thins. I've had them in my stash for a long time waiting for the right project. Thins are great for scroll saw work and I needed some more blanks for the church cross project I've been working on.
So I grabbed a few boards. They are rough sawn right off the band mill. Many years dry in my garage.
We don't get Mesquite in Michigan so this is a treat to work with.
    20240729_164419.jpg
I set up my drum sander.
    20240729_164433.jpg
And ran the boards through, a few slow passes on each side.
    20240729_170750.jpg
    It sure is pretty wood.
20240729_170756.jpg They cleaned up at 3/8" perfect for scrolling.
    20240729_181343.jpg
I layed out some patterns and worked around knots and splits.
    20240729_183621.jpg
And then i cut the to rough size on the bandsaw. I got another 16 blanks out of 3 short boards. Just gotta drill the entrance holes and scroll saw them out.

Someone I used to work with gave me an 8"x18" log of mesquite. I left it in the car I had at the time for a MI summer. Dried it right up. Then cut it to chunks for the smoker. I just used the that last piece about two weeks ago with some oak while making dinner. I have a friend in TX in need to visit...

    I am calling it finished.

I may end up remaking the drawer fronts sometime in the future. The dark pieces of the panels are bothering me a little. They were made out of the last of lumber that I had left over. I will see how much it bothers me once I live with it in the house for a while.

Next up is a coffee table to go with the chairs and tv console.

Looks good to me. I would just categorize the "dark spots" as "giving the console character".
