If any of the recipients complains ... bean them with the board.

I gave this as a wedding present to a nephew ... soft maple, walnut/red oak in the middle.

Looking good! Nice contrasting colors / species. I have not made a cutting board in a long time.

That looks great, I am sure he appreciated it. I made this for my almost mother in law last year and I love the look of the curly walnut

If I offered wedding advice would that get me on the list of people who are helping out with the wedding? Asking for a friend....:anonymous:

I should run a sale with my fabrication services, spend $1000 on labor and get a free cutting board

I had a dentist appointment this morning, so I took a day off from work. I was conveniently also able to hit up my wood place. They have odd hours, so it is hard for me to get in there often.

I wanted to reason to buy this amazing piece of cherry. But, I don’t have a project for it nor a place to store it.

Or this piece of Purple Heart.

This is what I brought home. This will be used to complete the next and “last” living room piece. 6CB58FE3-2975-4B03-8D9A-1B7B8C6C45A7.jpg

That's a horrible idea. What time?
Started on the desktop process. Because I apparently lost my mind with this idea, I made a jig for the glue up. An old melamine shelf that's been in the garage for five years.
    20240926_145739.jpg

Laid out and numbered the ends to keep the pattern straight, lettered the rows.
    20240926_143429.jpg 20240926_143421.jpg

Chose to dowel the ends for alignment, which worked well until I ran out of 3/8 dowel pins. Ugh.

Did one row then glued it up in the jig. Then drilled the remaining holes for the dowels.
    20240926_160048.jpg

Laid out and dry fitted the next two rows. I'll leave the first one in clamps over night and then I think I can the next two at the same time.
    20240926_164355.jpg

    20240926_164325.jpg

When I'm done with this, the jig comes apart and gets converted to a sled for the router. One of the walnut boards as the slightest twist at the end. That's up next, but probably not until the next set of days off.

    Desk progess today. None.

Forced into a work stop on the desk. Aggravated the developing arthritis and sprained or may have a small tear in the quad tendon. She said the knee is stable and the quad muscle seems intact and is working. She is an NP and will consult with the surgeon about an MRI. Conservative therapy and a cane for a week or two. I thought I'd be on crutches, so a silver lining. And the cane is blue, my favorite color. My wife already offered to put a bicycle horn on it and take appropriate pictures for distribution.

Started the new project while waiting for my drawer slides to arrive.

Drew out some patterns to see how large my panels needed to be.
    F569F942-85D4-4A79-8ECA-9D8EDC1A0115.jpg

Thickness planed the wood needed for the panels. Then glued them up. There will be three tiers on this plant stand. Top will be a little larger than the middle and bottom tiers.

    31A1F754-8409-46B6-8191-7C6E01017380.jpg

Made a 1/8” MDF template that I will use at the router table later to cut the final shape of each panel. All of the sides have some arc to them, no straight lines here.

Rough cut on the band saw.

    5E2CEFD6-AACB-4353-82B1-D2A6779D5228.jpg

Finished up on the oscillating sander.

    0F83202D-5333-4E89-AA74-AFDFDCA7EF50.jpg

Then the drawer slides arrived, and I put all of the plant stand stuff off to the side and got the table pieces back out. Now, I am done for the day. Hopefully more progress, attach the slides, build a drawer, attach the top, and get the table ready for finish tomorrow.

I repaired my performax 16/32 dreum sander today. The original feed belt snapped. Replacement came in from Amazon.
Started by loosening these 2 bolts on each side.
20240929_131027.jpg Then I backed off the adjusters all the way.
20240929_131035.jpg I payed attention to the direction arrows.
20240929_131215.jpg I removed 2 bolts from this bracket to slip the belt under the table.
20240929_131227.jpg I payed attention to the magnetic ceramic belt guides under the table, there 2 of them.
20240929_131241.jpg Belt is on and re assembled all the bolts in reverse order. It adjusted well and tracks true. It should provide many years of service again.
    20240929_132148.jpg
    It was an easy repair.

Well, the knee is doing better. Swelling in down about 75% and some of the "normal" aches and pains are returning. Still on a cane, and paying the neighbors kid to cut the grass.

Managed to get out in the garage in get some more gluing done. All three strips are glued and will need some jointer work. Two of the smaller pieces got a little out of alignment.

I laid them out in my tentative plan and it seemed a little small in scale to the size of the desk. Tried adding another row with extra pieces, filler strips of walnut a sepia between the rows, various border / trim widths.
    20241002_111931.jpg

    20241002_111931.jpg
    Original Idea.

    20241002_114617.jpg

    20241002_114627.jpg
Added some hickory and sepia offcuts. Sepia looked a little "heavy" or bold.

    20241002_153828.jpg
Thinned out the sepia to a single row and change the hickory width.

After consulting with the supervisor for a few minutes,
    20241002_115321.jpg

We decided on something close to this. One row of sepia between the hickory with the narrow row of hickory. The edge will be trimmed in walnut to same the width as the narrow row of hickory. I may (or nay not) put an 1/8" band of hickory between the walnut band on the sides and back of the desk. I like the idea of breaking up the walnut a little and did something similar on the end tables I built.
    20241002_114632.jpg

This is one of the two I built and I really like breaking up the color. Most of this was cut offs or scrap pieces from the first desk build. Sepia, walnut, and white oak. All hand cut, no metal. I apparently couldn't measure and mark very well, so no close ups.
