I get spoiled when I use my father in laws shop. He has all Powermatic and Laguna tools. That is where I got all of hand me down Bessie parallel clamps. He is 85 and not in great health, so he won’t be clamping and large glue ups in the near future. Using his tools make me realize how much easier some things can be with good kit. Then, I get the upgrade bug.

That's a horrible idea. What time?
I brought back some of dad's stuff and haven't been able to upgrade to his table saw yet. Not enough juice in the garage.

Those $5000 you could use for clamps is just uselessly dying in your retirement account.:boink:

I think I'll do without and put it toward actually having a shop to hang them in next summer.

Opened up the clamps this morning and found two mistakes. Easily fixed, but still. :annoyed:

Going left to right, I had put a spacer block in the second row to give my something to get the claps on. I neglected to check the size and it was about 1/8" too wide. Which didn't pull that part of the boards together. And to magnify it, one of the filler strips was about 1/32" wider in the same place. So there is a split where the two left and two right strips didn't come together.

Used a chisel and a finish nail prybar to separate and remove the offender. I used a thin rasp to remove some of the dried glue. Found the right size filler, glued and clamped it up again.

The other end came out pretty good. Can't wait to get this cleaned up. I am a little concerned about the hickory in planer and chip out. I had some on the edges from the joiner. I may try a pass or two on some scrap and see what happens.

And I'm not exactly "clamp poor," just not in the same neighborhood as some of y'all. Most of the Irwins (blue) are from my dad. I like the Jorgenson. Nice size grips for my hands and good pressure. And my discount at Lowes helps a bit.

I had a set of those in my hands a few weeks ago. And then I heard my wife complaining about how heavy the moving truck will be because of the garage tools.

I definitely think that I need more. However, these have been serving me well for a while now. The ones on the rack are 48”.

Get your own small UHaul for garage tools ... be anti-social. She just might tell you it is a good thing you got your own moving truck to begin with ...

Actually, part of the plan is to move the shop stuff down early and get built-ins done in the wife's craft room and my office. I'll also build in Tessa's crate in my office. We've talked with the builder about getting the shop closed in so we can do that. We'll know more about that a bit later.

How many people in your church? You must be close to everyone having one by now.

It has slowed down somewhat, but I also give them away outside of church too. New people come and go all the time also. They are free to anyone that would like one. It tickles me when I see people proudly wearing the crosses that I have made for them. I don't know if it ever will stop truthfully, but that's ok with me. But I do really need to get back to working on my workbench. I may force myself to take a break from the church stuff soon. I'll finish up these necklaces and make another batch of the large crosses and then finish my workbench.

Work on what you get enjoyment out of! My father in law used to make crosses for each new member of his church. Sadly, his health no longer allows him this simple pleasure.
