My gun has never been scratched by that flocking on the wood-form. If you go with flocking instead of a stick-on velvet pad ... experiment on other wood first. There is a glue that gives you 10 minutes maximum to drop/sift the velvet material ... after that there is no more material sticking to the glue. And do not think you can re-apply the glue over the flocking. The person who obeyed the warning experimented and found that if you apply the glue, let it cover 98% and dry/set, then re-apply more glue and apply the flocking you get complete coverage.. But you need to find out how best to "one and done" for the final application.

Finally had some time to finish setting up my new jointer. Very happy with my first test pieces.

I have a couple of projects rolling around in my head. May go to the lumber supplier and pick up a few boards tomorrow.

Here come the judge - order in the court!

I ordered the cherry planks for two of my layered floating shelves. I have the oak and the hemlock.

    Absoluting smashing!

I found this block of zebrawood atin the "by the pound, scraps" bin at the local wood shop. I was wondering what to do with it. I am inspired to get creative with it again ...

Use it for an inlay on something. Maybe pulls or knobs of some sort.

I have an idea, but need to test on cheaper woods first, verify if the idea is even of value to a recipient or just an idea for some other application.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a clear-drying pour-in-plastic? My idea is to hollow the center of a 10.5x6.5x1.74 (inches) block into a "frame". Then place a "keepsake" (the keepsake is relevant to the other person but maybe not enough of one) to embed that in the clear-drying plastic. Basically "the keepsake, suspended in clear plastic, inside a nice stained wood frame, viewable from both sides".

If this sounds stupid, please stop me before I waste any time on testing.

Deep pour epoxy is what youre looking for. Its tricky stuff to work with so be sure to read the directions thoroughly and be precise with your measurements of the two parts

Here’s a couple I’ve done from about 5 years ago. They still look great today

Thanks for that. I did not expect it would be monkey-proof so would test enough before risking the only copy of the item. Flocking is the same ... get it right the first time or sand and start over.

Is there a particular brans or source for it or pretty much any brand?

Im not too loyal to any particular brand. I’ve used a ton of different ones. Just don’t by the cheapest one you find and you should be fine. The cheap stuff can yellow on you

Totalboat? Or I can ask others as well. Here is the "remembrance" they handed out at their wedding, there are candies folded into the petals. Zebrawood I think will make it memorable.

    One other piece of advice

paint that thing with the epoxy first and let it fully dry. The better you can seal up the porous bits, the less bubbling you’ll get in the epoxy. Also, if you’re using wood as a border you’ll need to paint it with epoxy too.

especially when you’re doing deep pours, you’ve got to make sure everything is sealed otherwise youll end up with bubbles trapped in the epoxy.

I’ve encased sand dollars in epoxy for coasters and it just means using a brush and putting a thin coat on there, letting it dry, then setting it in the mold and doing the pour.

There is a method to use a pressurized container to push out the bubbles but I don’t have anything like that nor do I know anyone with one so I’ve got to do it the tedious way

Just got back from the wood store ... picked up some more zebra wood to practice before I use my only copy of the flower. I will be putting the wedding invitation in a shallow cut on the back as well and epoxy it.

I think some spray acrylic seal on the invitation will protect the ink from bleeding, and pre-spray the flower to get in all of the crevices first.

Then pre-paint with epoxy ... the flower, the invitation, the side walls. Starting with the extra piece of zebrawood and some cheapo ribbon and knobby menthos and some business card to see if everything falls apart.

Air bubbles will probably be the death of me, though. My brothers think they will not see it as kitchey, I hope the recipients do not. I really want this to be a good product of meticulous work.

Who do you guys buy wood from online?

There was a local place, covid killed it. Places 120 miles away. A cabinet place with maple 40 miles away. But anything semi-exotic, online.
